What a COOL piece! It's an Ulu by Mark Knapp, handle and stand created from gimlet wood, lapis lazuli and gold leaf - with Mark's outstanding Damascus blade material. Gimlet wood is typically found in Western Australia.

As I recall, the areas of inlay in the gimlet wood on these pieces Mark makes are something akin to wormholes, which are dug out with a small pick before inlaying. Mark, be sure to correct me on this if I've corrupted the facts! Height = 5", Blade = 7" point to point. It is WICKED SHARP. Only the lapis and gold ulu in the middle is for sale, not the ones on either side of it.

The best way to understand this wonderful piece is to check out the images. They say it all (only positives, of course). As new.

Asking $1200 - $1100 - $995 (Mark's original price to me was $1200), including shipping to any of the 50 states or Canada. US/Canadian buyers only.

First "I'll take it" gets it. Pay within 24 hrs with Paypal, the address for which will only be available via private message (the only way I prefer to communicate). So if you don't have private messaging, you'll be outta luck, sorry. Happy to answer any questions, provided they come via private message. In addition to Paypal, checks are an acceptable form of payment if I know you well.

Your facts are correct, Mr. Betzner. I'm out of this wood and have not been able to find more so I don't think I'll be able to make any more of these.

I have one like this that Mark made for me. It is a real piece art and the workmen ship is OUTSTANDING. At that price it is a steal. Some one will be very happy if they buy this. Terry alias KT

Wish to buy the Ulu. Not able to contact admin on how to PM on this site. May not be iPad friendly. Sent friend request on FB. Can pay with pp. I'm just flopping around trying to figure out how to contact you. Alan Hollister.

Alan, I am not on FB. I don't disclose my Paypal info in public (this is a public forum) so I utilize private messaging. I also don't disclose my email information in public for the same reason. I believe if you check with admin, you get a few pm's for free, through which we could communicate. The ulu is still for sale. Supply an email address and I can contact you. Best regards, Bob Betzner

This is Dottie Hollister, Alan's wife. I am now a paid member and trying to send a Private Message for Alan, but so far we have been unable to contact admin or to figure out how Private Messages are exchanged. Perhaps you could send a PM to me and we could continue from there. Thanks very much.

Found instructions to leave a Private Message on your profile page but have been unable to find the "box" that allows me to type a message to you. Still baffled.

there should be a black envelope somewhere in at the top, perhaps to the right. There may be a large one and a small one. They are used to start conversations, ie, send pm threads. Try that.

I see the black envelope. When I click on it I get to the conversation page but still have not found where I can click on anything that will let me type anything. I'm not usually this inept...so sorry. I'll try again.
Just tried again. When I click on the black envelope it just takes me to the conversation page and tells me there are no conversations. I keep thinking there must be somewhere to click to start a new conversation but can't find anything that will allow me to actually type any content or conversation to. Is it really this hard?

I was finally able to send a message via "Contact Us" asking for help starting a private message. Hopefully they will answer helpfully soon. Again...so sorry.

I will try and have a moderator contact you who I know. If you have paid for the membership, you just need to change some status on the screen, but its something i myself have had a problem with. Give him til the end of the day, he may be busy. Bob Betzner

Thank you so much. I paid for the membership this morning via Pay Pal so hopefully your moderator contact will have time to reply and help me out. Thanks also for your patience.

The moderator I contacted told me that if you have paid for your membership, then you should have the ability to contact me through private messages. Your membership screen (profile page) should have field or button that when used, directs you to send a message or conversation. I suggest you continue to attempt to contact another moderator until you find someone who can explain the problem to you better than I, sorry!

I've locked this thread so that it won't continue to lengthen. If and when you can pm, let's discuss then in a private message conversation.
