The stones grit cannot get finer. It's the grit found on top of the concrete which becomes ground finer. After leveling a stones surface can 'feel' finer. Should this occur merely work it a little more on the coarse concrete until it returns to it's original feel. Otherwise, it takes sharpening many knives to return the stone to it's original feel. DM
Are you saying it takes you MORE than 5 minutes to flatten your stones? Velvet or corduroy don't make good stone flatteners...
I 'scrub' 'em just the way I'd scrub a dirty frying pan.
I've never spent more than 3-5 minutes flattening any stone. Of course, I don't use a micrometer to check edge-to-edge measurements. I just put a couple of pencil marks criss-crossing the the stone, and when they are gone, hold the stone up to an aluminum straight edge with a bright light behind. If there is no light, the stones are flat.
