Hi everyone
I happened to have both Laredo bowies the san mai iii and the carbon v made in the usa, and I can only keep one of them..
What would you reccomand?
I carry it for self defense, so the quistion is what would be better in fight situation.
The carbon v version feels slightly lightier and quicker (but less power on the stroke..), also there is some differences with the design.. the carbon version has sharper false edge the the san mai.
Does the carbon v is better then the san mai?
Is the production quality of the japanise manufactures are better then the usa ?

Sorry about my english

Thanx!

Hanan

No offense here but iv handled the carbon v version and it's not exactly light and fast imho. Unless you have training in hand to hand combat of some sort id say bear mace and a smaller lighter knife would be better as a self defense option. Either that or a gun depending on where you live. To me those knives are big chopper camp type knives. I would just keep which ever you like better...On the other hand if it's for self defense and is used in a fight, chances are you'll lose it anyways.

Hi
A lot of Islamic terror attacks here man.. and most of them with knives, and can't buy a handgun..
Anyway, can't help me with the steels?

Steel would come down to personal preference honestly. Do you use the knife at all and sharpen it yourself? If so what are your uses and what are your sharpening skills?

I would sell whichever would bring a higher price - most likely the San Mai III. The Carbon V blade is well known for superb edge properties.

This not to say the San Mai III is a lower performing steel, just that the Carbon V will likely perform just as well within the non-edge stressing use of self-defense (human flesh cuts and is punctured easily).

Just keep your knife hair-shaving sharp (do not use a motorized belt-sharpener - learn to sharpen by hand) and your Carbon V blade will never fail to cut.

Carbon V is awesome. I've made many knives from the stuff.
