Just saw the 2021 lineup, and it looks like they are going to bring back the Laredo Bowie. That's one blade that I want that I missed the last time around. Although I have, use, and love Trailmasters, I am definitely interested in getting the Laredo.

Anybody use a Laredo regularly? What do you think about it? Compare it to other Cold Steel bowies?

Check the steel before buying. If it is that liner metal nonsense they proposed a few months ago you should consider skipping it.

Unless you want a cheap wall hanger? I wouldn't want one but I bet quite a few people would?if you like it for looks and occasional letter opening its probably just the ticket! ;)

Yeah I don't really want the promised new stainless. Guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens.

I have an old SK5 version that I've used a bit and it's great. My only issue with it is that I think the handle is a bit too fat.

Maybe the new ones will be in legitimate steel. I see that they are also offering the Natchez again. I'll pick one up if they bother to make it correctly.

Where is this 2021 lineup that shows the Laredo coming back?
On the current Cold Steel website the only Laredo I could find had "rubber"
as a blade material.

I use to have a San Mai Laredo, it was quite a knife in terms of both looks and performance.
Swinging it and comparing to my San Mai Trail Master, the Laredo moved faster. I'm figuring it was the weight distribution
with the rat tail tang.
If CS are going to bring it back with an unattractive steel, I'd hunt for an older one, 01, SK5, San Mai.

Thanks. Saw the pictures. Presume no confirmed info given on the steel? I guess we are assuming the worst.
I also don't see any San Mai offerings.

I think it's the best of the CS bowies. That is, it was the best. Now, with the stupid steel selection, who knows? It had great balance and could be used as a camp knife or a dedicated fighter. Trailmaster was more of a camp knife, less of a fighter. Natchez was a pure fighting knife, but it did feel a bit too heavy for me.

I wonder if we will ever see a Made in Taiwan San Mai Laredo? They have announced but not yet released a Black Bear Classic in San Mai.

Until the news of the sale of CS, I would have said yes. But now....if GSM is calling the shots, I have no idea either.

This site now shows the Taiwan made VG10 San Mai models, as well as the VG1 Trail Master. I guess the contract with Hattori is going to continue on that one model as a limited run product. Maybe...

So the Laredo will be in 3V. Awesome!

The price, not so awesome. I predict that I will initially balk at the price and poo-poo it as unrealistic. I'll probably be able to hold out for a few months. And then I'll sit around for a while looking at it on the internet and then buy it anyway. All the time I'll be rationalizing it and consoling myself. Ha!

I personally won't pick one up in 3v as its not built as a hard use knife with its construction of the handle (unless I missed something) so 3v IMHO is better suited to the trailmaster/recon scout.

I could be mistaken but haven't direct-from-Cold Steel prices always been significantly higher than what they would be at from dealers? I seem to recall this being the case.

I am certainly looking forward to 3v versions of the Trailmaster and Recon Scout. If the price and availability is right for the Laredo and Natchez, I'd be interested in those as well.

I've never picked up a Laredo or Nachez bowie because of the stub tang to a cable construction, and I never will as long as that is how it is constructed. If they move over to a substantial tang like they use on the Trailmaster or recon scout then maybe.
