Hi all!

My friend asked me today to recommend him a larger folding knife for under $50.
He carries a CRKT M21 tanto now and he would like a blade similar in size.
Uses could include anything and everything.

Fire away!

I really like the ka bar mule. Big handle that holds like a fixed blade, great edge geometry, about 4" blade length.

Kershaw Tremor

Gotta give this one a :thumbup::thumbup:

I bought one to use in my construction work, and liked it so much I bought two more to use IF I wear one out. It has proven to be an excellent work knife.

Can be found on the South American River site for as little as $20 delivered as they are a discontinued pattern.

No contest. The Cold Steel Eland is the finest large folder you can buy for under $20.00, and outperforms many $100.00+ knives. If 5-1/2" is too big a blade for you to carry legally in your area, they make the same knife in a 4-1/2" blade called the Kudu. I have both, and they are my favorite pocket knives.

I second the RAT-1, it's a fantastic folder for a rock-bottom price.

Add me as another vote for the RAT 1. I don't think you can find a better folding knife for under $30 than a RAT 1 or 2.

Rat 1 is the best bet probably. After that, ....

Buck 110 if you want a traditional.

-Buck/TOPS CSAR-T "Avid" folder-if you can squeeze the budget buying used.
-KaBar Mule

Cold Steel Recon 1

Cold Steel Code 4 (the tanto version is incredibly well done)

Rat-1 (grab two of them!)

Ontario Utilitac 2 (again, get a couple at the price)

opinel 10. at first I found it comically oversized but after using it a bit, I am hooked. I love the big almost broomstick size handle. Give it a crack. It costs less than a 12pack of crummy beer.

I gotta agree with the Tremor recommendations.
You won't find a better knife for 2x the price. I got mine for $20.

You can find these all day long for $40ish on the innarwebz, Silvanus here beat me to it!

This knife was so great I bought a back-up only a couple of days later. That is super rare for me (although backups in general are awesome, especially of affordable budget blades.)
