Howdy,
Just had to share. I got a LARGE bull elk opening moring this last Saturday. It's a 6X7 point (should be a 7X7 but one tine was completely broke off and can't be counted).
I have to admit though, I didn't use my RC-4 to field dress or skin it
. It was in reserve if my primary knife got dull, but I didn't need it. I used a custom stag, leather and brass handled fixed 4 1/2" blade that my good friend made for me. He gave it to me as a present a few years ago when I was having a hard time, lost my job etc. It's a work of art, and I just had to use it (he appreciated that also). The blade was made from an old planer blade, and is the same/very similar to D2 tool steel.
I am doing a European mount myself. I will post some pic's once I finish.
Still is a state of shock.
I used a Winchester lever action 45-70 with a reciever ghost ring peep site.
The shot was 140yrds from the seated position. He went down hard.
