I'm looking for a high-quality (think Queen or above, maybe custom?) stockman with a large main blade (3.75 or 4 inches). I'm considering the Queen Cattle King but can't find the length of the blade. I like the amber stag bone. I have the largest Buck stockman, a Queen #9, Schrade 8OT, etc. but I want a long main blade. Ideas, names of makers? Thanks.

The one on my Marbles version measures 3 3/8", and is deffinately the largest I would want!

NTM,

When you say you have the largest Buck Stockman, do you mean a 301 or the 307 with 3 3/4" blade ?
Discontinued but available on auction site frequently.

I was very surprised with the quality of a Case amber bone large stockman I got recently. It was on closeout at Tractor Supply Company, and a lot less than sticker price.

Thanks!
300 Bucks, I've got the 301 and am now starting a search for a 307 - wasn't aware of it.
Silenthunter, I've got Cases in both stainless and carbon steel and do like them. Just looking for longer main blade (and don't like the Turkish Clip shape).

Never too many Case also has a Larger version with a clip point blade that is 4&1/4 Closed I think the clip blade measures in around 3 &1/4 it's a Tank of a knife....Good luck in your quest

I picked up a Buck 703 last year, and wouldn't mind finding a used 701. Steel is 425M, similar to 420HC, but still not bad for a stainless. I know you're looking for carbon steel, but I have been carrying my little 703 off and on, and it is a great user.

I got a Böker carbon Stockman in Apoloosa bone in a trade, very decently put together knife and it could be a worker 4" closed.

The 4 1/4" stockman is fairly common, made by Queen, Case, Moore Maker (actually from Queen), and Eye Brand. And Moore Maker has the 4 1/2" version, too. Any one of those would do well. I have stockmans from all of them, and the best fit & finish is with the Queen-made Moore Maker (I have no experience with the Bear and Camillus made Moore Makers).

Thanks for all the input. I'm now actively looking for the Moore Maker (Queen-made) and the Case Large Stockman. I appreciate the help and will try to return the favors when I have suggestions for you guys.

I have a large Case CV 6.5 Bonestag Stockman, and it's an amazing knife. Big for the pocket, but it'll handle almost any cutting chore you may have. I dropped the overall profile of the blades, so it's a lot more comfortable to hold & use. That and a good mid-sized fixed blade would handle all of my cutting chores.

A Buck 307 (stainless) or the old SchradeUSA 858 (carbon) would be great knives too.

thx - cpr

Below are, top down, my Boker Tree Brand CS Washboard Red Bone, Puma SS Stag, and Boker 301 SS. Not shown is my latest - an almost fragile looking 3/4 sized German Bull SS with buffalo horn scales. The Boker TB is nice - well made - CS. It was a 'win' on evil-bay last month new from a dealer <$36 shipped.

The Boker is beautiful, as is the little German Bull (not shown). The Puma was a deal for stag - purchased on closeout locally for quite little, actually. The German Stockman knives are all well made and beautifully finished. They represent great pride in ownership. The nineteen year old Buck is a workhorse whose blade came sharper - and has been easily maintained with a Spyderco Sharpmaker - hooray for 420HC! It's my choice for a 'worker', even if it's secondary blades are reversed compared with the German Stockman knives. Need a larger blade? Get a Buck 112 or 110 - fantastic looks, fit, feel, and sharpness. Great tools!

I'm late to the party (as usual) but I thought I'd mention my latest eBay aquisition, a Queen #49 Jumbo Stockman. It makes my 8OT look petite, easily the largest stockman I've ever gotten a hold of. I didn't think to take any pictures of it while I had light, but tomorrow is another day.
