Large fixed (12”+) pic thread

Large fixed blades have never been my thing- but they're awfully fun to own if you can put them to use.

I've only ever had one that large..
Mario Leao (MLL Knives) was active on here once upon a time, but I haven't seen anything new from him since around 2019.
Perhaps he retired- I hope he's still around and living his best life.

Anyway- this was his Nervae model, in O1.
He made some KILLER leather sheaths as well..

This was one heavy duty beast.
I also had his modified Kephart model, which turned out beautiful, but wasn't quite 12+".

If anyone knows anything about Mario these days or how he's doing, I'd love to know.

Shechita/Chalefs! 18" long, 2.5" blades in 3/32" S90V. These are knives to slaughter cattle so it's Kosher. I've done a few of them! Next to them is a 240mm (9.5") Japanese Gyuto.

No, it's for slicing the throat in one motion in a very specific manner that avoids, chopping, stabbing, tearing, etc. Hence no point on the end of the blade, and it has to be longer than the throat.

Just the throat like Synov said. No chips/nicks on the edge, high polished blade, etc. The more recent ones I did are in 1/16" magnacut and slightly narrower, 2" wide instead of 2.5.

8670 chopper I did for a buddy of mine a few years ago. He wanted something like the Storm Vector. 12" cutting edge, plus the longer ricasso and 2 handed grip.

1/4" spine, handle material is Camo SureTouch. Wanted something grippy with some cushion to it

I must have a dozen 10” blades or so. But 12” and above, the collection gets sparse. Not sure why - expensive and of limited usefulness, I guess...

As you know, I have your old CPK Behemoth'er, but have never even touched it.


The only actual "user" that I have, that is even close, is my 111A. It ain't much more than a "froe", for the Hunters to split logs around the woodpile. TOPS shows it as having an 11" blade...
