Gents,

I'm looking for a new folder, and I've recently been really intrigued to the larger folders, like 8-10 + inches overall!! I bought the Willumson Blondie with satin finish, kind of on the cheap side, but I fell in love with it!!!

So now my birthday is coming up and my dad is going to the blade show this year... soooo.. I've come here for some suggestions from my fellow knife enthusiast's!!!

I'm looking for a large tactical (modern) folder.... what do you guys think??

Thanks

Grayman SATU is a tank. I am waiting for Grayman knives to have them back in stock to order mine. also check out woods bladeworks. Will made a huge folder called the TiTan a year back and he is planning on making another soon. here is a pic of my TiTan

Spyderco Military is hands down the greatest working man's 4 inch bladed folder around. Overall 9.5" long. But it carries in your pocket like a much smaller knife, it is remarkably thin and light for its length and working capabilities.

If you want something that big with more heft you can check out the Titanium version, but it is still on the thin side, so it won't fulfill the need of having a brick in your pocket that some guys have.

Depends on your budget and needs/wants.

Here's a few (at reasonable cost) which I think will suit almost any need:
Spyderco Paramilitary
" Military
Cold Steel Recon 1
CRKT M series

If your paymaster has an open budget, then anything's the limit, really.

Spyderco Paramilitary 2 is a nice compromise between size and capability; 3.3" blade.
A Chris Reeve Knives Sebenza is an enduring favorite among lovers of finely-made folders; 3.6" blade.

Ontario Hossom Retribution

What's your budget and legal length?

benchmade 810 contego big slab of cpm-m4 steel that is very tuff and holds an edge for a very long time plus it has an axis lock which is one of the best locks on the market made in the USA for under $140 pretty hard to beat.

Thank you all!! I really appreciate your reply!!! I've been looking into your recommendations and now I have pretty good outlook on them. But I still can't decide!!! I've ALWAYS been a big fan of spyderco, but ZT knives are making it really hard to decide on the military or police. I'm looking into the ZT 0500, ZT560, but the ZT700 has really intrigued from the overall design. Anyone ever handled this blade??

PS. I really like the benxhmade 810 Contego!!!!

Benchmade Contego, Bedlam both super good; Benchmade Adamas is good too, my favorite Benchmade although they should make a bigger one. Ontario Retribution 1, although its super unfriendly to your pockets. My favorite for now is the Emerson Super Roadhouse.

ZT 0700 is quite small for your current wants as a large folder. It's just been discontinued too so if you do want one, it should be quite cheap. My friend had one and it was terrible, he sold it awhile back.

If you're looking for really large modern(ie, no Opinel #12), folders, take a look at some Cold Steel. Their XL Voyagers and their Large Espada have an overall length of around 12 inches(5.5 inch blade length), even the large Voyagers, Recon 1s, Talwars, and the Hold Out 2(all with 4 inch blades) are still around 9-10 inches overall. Then there's the Espada XL with a 7.5 inch blade, the Rajah 2, Hold Out 1, and 6'' Ti-Lite all with a 6 inch blade, the Paradox 5.5(5.5 inch blade, obviously), and the Spartan and standard Paradox with 4.5 inch blades which should all fit the bill for you as well. Other than the Espadas, all of these are sub-$100.

They also have the Talwar XL(5.5 inch blade), Counter Point XL(6 inch), and Recon XL(5.5 inch) all due later this year.

Yeah my dad didn't like the ZT0700, he didn't like the blade point or the the overall design!! He handled one at last years blade show!! But I like the way the design looks!!! But I keep hearing that no one really likes it, so I probably wont get it.
Thanks for your reply

Strider SMF or Hinderer XM-24. I have both and can attest to the ruggedness and quality. Not cheap. Superior knives in by book. I use them all the time.

You know I've always been a fan of Cold Steel, despite their many complaints and reviews!! But I have handled a couple of their blades and have bought many of their knives as gifts. I would love to get more of their knives, but with so many other options, I usually end up going elsewhere.
Although I am a VERY big fan of the Espadas, especially the XL, and the voyagers, even the spartan, and now even more the new Talwars!!!!
So thank you for the reply, but now you just made my decision harder!!!! Lol
Thanks man :P

Lol, no problem. When someone is looking for a gentleman's knife, or a light EDC blade or something, well, I usually suggest a different company, but when someone is asking for LARGE folders...Cold Steel comes immediately to mind, heh. I have no problems with their stuff...sure, they don't use super steels or anything, but they make good beater blades. Razor sharp out of box, easy to resharpen, not too expensive...okay, yeah, their advertising is a bit, well, over the top, but that's not an issue for me as long the knives are good, and CS has plenty of good knives IMO.
