Large handle = problems?

Good morning. I am making a scandi knife and I just carved my own handle. It is oval shaped, like the Mora #1. At its thickest, it is 1 3/8" x 1". It feels comfortable, but I wonder if it gets tiring to hold if I work with it for a long time. Any advice will be appreciated.

I would think just the opposite. I find knives with too small handles to be tiring. My most common problem with a lot of the very popular fixed blade knife brands is their small handles.

Try it. If it is too large, you can always thin it. This is one of those matters where your personal preference should rule, if you are making it for your use.

the only way that it could become uncomfortable is if you held it for so long that a less comfortable handle would be worse, or if you started chopping with it. the first would be hypothetically unavoidable, and the second would be the wrong use of the knife, and so this handle is a good choice.

If you look at woodworking knives they all look pretty much like what you have there. I say go with it.
