Large Inkosi with Natural Canvas Inlay Arrived

Do these have the holes on the inside of the scales behind the inlays, like have been added to the more recent inlayed 21's? The small natural micarta Inkosi is extremely tempting...

Excellent question, I had never thought to look. Yes, both the large and small have the inlay removal access holes. They are both in the same positions, here are photos of the large (these are not the easiest to photograph, sorry for the crummy shots).

Thanks for bringing this to our attention-

... and there are three small's still in-stock at Derrick's shop in Escanaba (knivesshipfree)

Does anybody know if it's a limited run or we'll see them going together with black micarta?

Both black micarta and natural canvas micarta are listed as standard production models on the Chris Reeve web site. They are both currently available at resellers.

Really dont get the two different finishes regarding the micarta? I prefer the look of the micarta on the small.

To further elaborate, CRK micarta always starts off a paler, more faded color, with visible white lines. Over time, as you handle the knife, oils from your hand soak into the micarta, and it darkens. It's happened to every micarta crk I've owned, as well as micarta from other brands.

Those photos depict the holes superbly. Thank you for checking!

It won't be soon, but I think the Small Natural Canvas Inkosi will be my next knife.

Great post and pix. Mine is on the way soon. Probably be my EDC for quite some time. I didn't read too deep about the Inkosi blade grind compared to the 25. Are they different? I really liked the semi-flat grind of the 25.

The grind of the Inkosi is different than the Sebenza 25. It's slightly deeper but no where close to the hollow grind profile of the Sebenza 21. I had posted some keyhole type photos comparing the grinds in the thread linked below. I also have those photos summarized on a Flickr page (link included). The Inkosi grind is exactly as described on the CRK web site as, "making it half way between a flat grind and our standard hollow grind". The photos show that.

I don't think the finished are intentionally different. 'Natural' Micarta varies throughout a sheet, so it's likely a combination of the exact spot in the Micarta it was cut from, coupled with the fact the threads will appear more prominent in the small with the inlays being smaller, and more curved over less distance.

What is true, is neither will look like this once the knife is handled. Like the black Micarta, these will darken and change hue with use.

Yes, ive known this for a long time, but what i am referring too was the OPs initial comment here:

"The companion to the small edition arrived today. The micarta seems to have the wax/lubricant that is applied to Nyala handles because it's both darker and has some translucence

The pic of the large side by side with the small clearly shows the large inlays with more of a coated/sheen look(similar to the Nyala) while the small's inlays look more uncoated/naked/matte.

Like i said, i prefer the look of the UNcoated inlays of the small.

I briefly remember talking with someone from CRK at the local knife show and they were discussing experimenting with coatings on the inlays.
Color uniformity, IIRC was the reason. Time will tell if they continue this or not. There is going to be color variation from one batch to another.

Coatings may be the wrong term to use..it may be a dye..but I can't see either being used long term. Personally, I would rather see the color variation of the stock material.

Thx. Very cool. I look forward to using the large Inkosi. I have fun in kitchen with most of my CRKs, but this will see some field use this season too.

Speaking of Large and Small similarities, you mentioned the Large Inkosi does NOT have the detent ball track in the blade.

Can you see if the same is true with the Small Inkosi as well please?

Both the large and small Inkosi with micarta inlay do not have the lock face groove on the tang, which the early production models did have. This is not the same as the detent ball interface on the blade tang. As far as I know, there has never been a machined detent ball track on CRK knives- rather it rides on the surface of the tang.

Copy that. My terminology was wrong, but you answered my question. Thanks for checking!
