Been there done that...
Sold the Zaan the same week I got it, really dislike that knife...
Sold the 25 the same week I got it, didn't dislike it as much as the zaan however Ive had 21's both sm's and lg's, and the 25 seems to me like a step backwards... I know the differences are subtle... esp. if you've never actually had a 21... (maybe you have?)
But, I can pick them right out... and I don't care for them... I dislike the larger pivot they gave the 25, and also didn't care for the differences in the blades and the "slight" changes they made to the handle...
Ive got a small insingo right here on the desk and I intend to keep it and never let it out of my sight, Ive made that mistake in the past! no sir nothing but 21's for me ;-)
But hey!, if you LOVED the 25 then why in the world did you sell it 0.0 ? when I find I truly love something I don't tend to get rid of it...
Have you ever tried a 21?... it's really nice my man...
P.S. Ive been edcing an insingo and cant get enough of it...
I voted for the Insingo. I might be biased because it is the only CRK I have and I love it.
I chose a 21 because I really like the idea of the pivot bushing (no need for loctite ever) and I like that the lock bar makes full contact with the blade. Where on the 25/umnumzaan the ceramic ball detent makes contact with the blade. I am not saying one is better or worse, I just like 21 design more.
I chose the Insingo because I really liked the blade shape. It is just so utilitarian. The only drawback that I can see of the Insingo is that you are missing a really fine point and belly. If you need a fine point or a functional belly on your knife then the Insingo isn't your best choice. But if what you want is a very functional, very utilitarian slicing machine then the Insingo is for you. As far as self defense, I have heard that the Insingo would not be a good stabber because it lacks that pointy tip but the swedge and stout tip of the Insingo would make it an excellent stabber IMO.
I'm REALLY glad I was able to fondle an assortment of CRKs in person before recently getting my first one.
I didn't get to handle the Umnumzaan, but I got to handle the Large and Small 21, the Large being the Insingo and the Small being the Drop/Clip point, as well as a 25.
I knew instantly that the 21 was the right choice for me. The 25 just didn't do it for me. I don't care for the looks, didn't like the finger grooves, and with research I really didn't like hearing that the bushing was gone or that people needed to use Loc-Tite to keep it together.
If CRK ever discontinues the 21, I'm happy to know I already have one but they won't sell me another Sebenza if the only option down the line is the 25. I really feel that the two are totally different knives.
