I have been trying to find large knives and/or short swords that are up for extremely hard use. I am aware of, and now own a Busse, but was wondering about your choices for other blades over 15" in total length. (I ADORE my Busse, just looking for variety.) I tried to search for this topic, but could not quite find what I was looking for. Any suggestions for wakizashis, machetes, brush knives, or just big honkin' beaters? Pics would be awesome, but not necessary.
Thanks!

Swamp Rat WAKI...get one while you still can.

You can get a Himalayan Imports AK Bowie for $175-ish.

15" long and close to 1/2" thick.

keep an eye on the HI forum, you just missed an Annapurna Bowie for $75 - mine replaced my Busses.

All the Condors will take a beating...and at a great price!

Check out Reflections of Asia. Bolos for under $30. They're not always pretty but they are the real deal. Honest, village grade users. Hard to beat for the price.

+1 for the Swamp Rat Rodent waki!

-built like a tank! This blade will realy take a beating, and has a great warranty to back it up.

Bark River 10" Bowie.

The Spalted Maple handles on this one would not be the ideal choice for a hard use knife, but choose one with different slabs and it will take a lickin'.

www.rangerknives.com Justin does custom work at a good price. i've never actually used one of his knives, but was talking to him about building me a short sword before i ended up buying a Waki. in the future, when i'm able to buy more blades, he's the first place i'm gonna check.

Here's one to look at:

It's not a waki, but, as another forumite informed me, it is a Burmese Dah.
I just recently acquired one.:D It 1060 steel and was made for cutting. It is waki size in the blade at 20". 1/4" thick at the base and distally tapers to the tip.

I don't know about hard use, but mine cuts 1" thick Camphor saplings PDG.

HI can suit your needs.

One of mine is a khukiri just over 20in, just over 1/2in thick, and about 4lbs. A true monster.

I got it because like you, I had plenty of medium-large blades, but decided I needed BIG.

I can't believe this thread has gone this far without some smartass suggesting a smatchet... which, actually, might be appropriate in this case.

If you want something that really wont break, then try an Ontario Machete, or even a Cold Steel Machete(any one, they have a lot of styles). I have had a few, and they all are still going strong even after i put them through a lot of abuse. If you like Samurai kind of stuff, look at Hanwei. Condors, tromontinas, they are all pretty good, but i like my Cold Steel over them all. just my .2

If you don't mind waiting a little longer EESE knives (formerly RAT Cutlery) is releasing their Junglas Machete, take a look at the pics of it. It might be what you are looking for. Not to mention that their blades are known for being extremely durable.

I haven't gotten ahold of one yet, but Condor has a good selection of big blades and has been getting good reviews.
