large knives/short swords

too large to be practical in my opinion. unless axes go extinct

a mate of mine carries something akin to the Swamp Rat Rodent waki thingamabob when we go bowhunting for pigs.

the idea is if they charge you, you have something to whack 'em with.

they also make quite a handy snake-whacker (very, very important in the Australian outback).

Opening coconuts! :-) Well, that and for scaring the poop out of any hadji that thinks it'd be cool to try and kidnap me while I'm here. Oh, and for felling small to medium sized trees, and splitting critters down the spine without needing a bone saw. The troops I work with are scared of it too, so it should be good for conflict avoidance too. lol
