Large Liner-lock Showdown!

A close one for me between the Military and the Pro-Hunter, but the Pro-Hunter gets my vote. Here's why:

1) Both the Military and the Pro-Hunter have S30V blade steel, and are pretty close in blade length, but the Pro-Hunter has a little more belly, and a stronger tip profile (and is saber-flat ground vs. full-flat ground).

2) Both the Military and the Pro-Hunter have nested, steel liner-locks, w/ radius ramps & excentric pivots (to adjust for wear), but the Pro-Hunter has dual, nested steel liners, giving it a slight edge in strength, IMHO.

2) Both the Military and the Pro-Hunter have great, grippy G10 handles, with a "50/50" choil, and both have "open frame" designs for easy cleaning, but the Pro-Hunter feels a little more secure in my hands.

I own both knives, plus a couple others on the original poster's list, but IMHO, the Pro-Hunter is THE "large liner-lock" to have & use if you could only have one of the knives mentioned.

Best wishes,
3G

I'm new here but I really like the way my Strider AR works and the fact that it acheives the tightest lockup of any knife I own. I'm also giving a lot of thought to the Retribution from Ontario as from what I've read those liners on the big boy are about .125" thick!

Thanks for the compliments allenC and goldie. I feel very fortunate to own this knife.

It is one of my favorites and gets used often. The lockup is secure with no blade play even under "white-nuckling". It cuts VERY well, and is easy to cary. The grip is versatile and comfortable.

The only thing I can imagine someone would not like about it is that configuration is for tip down and right hand only.

Definitely get one if you can.

Rat Trap - just arrived
big yet slim
my new EDS

Buck-Strider-Tarani w/G10 scales
too greedy for real strider
collects dust - I abhorr half-serrated blade

My Rat Trap is tuned just right. I love it. It opens smooth, and closes easily.

The Spyderco ParaMilitary, is that considered a liner lock?

My buddy has one of those that works great as well.

The Buck Strider I was looking at the other day, not the Tarani model, had a lot of meat on the lock. I liked it as well.

My choices are both discontinued, but available with some searching. The Benchmade AFCK and Spyderco's Wegner. Both classics IMO.
