"At this time, we have no plans to make any folders over 4" in blade length. They are illegal to carry just about everywhere so the only 'Politically correct' function is collection."
I see the argument that over 4" is illegal a lot, but I'm curious if someone could provide a list of states where this is true. It's not true here in MA, it's not true in CA, and to my understanding in NJ and NY they go by palm width, which is closer to 3.5" - so many existing Spydies are already illegal. I'm not claiming the 4" limit is a myth, just curious if it's as widespread as we've come to believe. Blade listed all the state knife carry laws a few years back and I don't recall seeing it that often.
Even if the 4" limit is exaggerated, taht doesn't mean Spyderco should produce a mega-folder, of course. Spyderco makes tools, not weapons (notable limited and unadvertised exceptions), and it's hard for me to see a folder over 4" as a tool. If I need that length I'm definitely in a job and an environment that allows fixed-blades.
Also, at sizes over 5" pocket clips get silly and opening holes get somewhat redundant... but why am I playing devils's advoacate? I want one!
