Large, pocketable fixed blade options

IMO, since it's a fixed, you should get a knifemaker to make exactly what you want.

Puukko is a great idea. My fave hip pocket FB is my Dozier K1 General Utility, with gorgeous jigged bone grip. Flat, 7.5" long, easy to carry, and it cuts unbelievably well, which is par for the course for any Dozier.

I got the Hess Caper with bone handles today, and I sure like it.

It fits my hand perfectly.

I came hair popping sharp, and the thin stock, convex ground 1095 blade cuts like the dickens.

I like it.

I sent you a pm. The knife I want to suggest is a traditional PATTERN, but the use of screw on fasteners arbitrarily precludes it from this forum.

What exactly constitutes a "traditional" fixed blade can get into pretty grey territory pretty quickly.

Good to hear a positive review! I may have to pick one up, feels like a heck of a deal at the price point!

While I would love to have one of those but I am currently hunting for something a bit bigger. I love the pseudo sheepsfoot/droppoint blade on those though! Reminds me of the spydie hole griptilian blade shape that I love so much.

either a dozier or check out your fellow buckeye l.t. wright. the patriot might fit the bill,or one of his other small straight blades;they ,and he, are mentioned all over the place in this site(lotsa great pics too). my understanding is that the bone handled models are slimmer through the handle, and the prices might be more to your liking than doziers'. that said my dozier stands head and shoulders above my l.t. wright and if you can find one with the right price : buy it ! you'll never regret it. fair to be said that, to me his fixed blades are what sebenzas are to others and folders. good luck and for the record i regularly carry a fixed blade front pocket that's 8.75 to 9.25" in length-but i'm over 6'

I email them what the turnaround time is on the Dozier and they got back with me...3 years. Better put in that order now I guess! At that rate I could just put aside a dollar or so a week and save up LOL.

lotsa doziers out there, check out his links page and fleabay, plus this site has at least a couple up for sale, and they just changed their homepage available inventory.i also found out recently that a.g. russells can request modifications on some models where it might take 3 or 4 months to get them( i asked about jimping on something) (non BF dealer references removed) usually have some of his pieces.not that i'm a fan. or anything. noooo:)

I started looking into them. Looks like Kellam makes an attractively priced one that has lots of good reviews, I think I will pick one up after a little more research to confirm their quality.

You might also want to check out Lamnia web site. They have a good selection, even some hand forged ones.

Take a look at Scott Gossman's PSK, PSK Jr, UNK models. I carry all three in a Skookum style neck sheath. The UNK and my mini Kephart, similar to the PSK, are too big to carry that way, but the small PSK Jr is just right. I also carry these sheaths in my pants pocket, or you can tie them to your belt with a lanyard.

battle horse knives also come to mind, and after i quickly pulled up their page, they still have the create your custom knife option.(shrug) may not be forum correct but some of the survive! knives have,to me, a traditional aspect,but...maybe that's pushing it.

Hopefully this suggestion is appropriate to the traditional forum.
This has been my most commonly carried fixed blade since I purchased it earlier this year...and it has always gone in my rear pocket.
EDC Utility made by bacustomknives. I missed a couple he had for sale, sent him an inquiry...and he contacted me with the next one he had ready to go.
The blade is 3 1/4 inches; and I believe the OAL is a little over 7.5 - I can confirm those measurements when I get home; but I'm sure he has the specs in his ads.

I really like the looks of that. I'll have to check them out. So many good suggestions here I think I may need to make several purchases so I can be sure I got a good one :D

Looks appropriate to me! Nice knife!

Larry Nowicki has a bunch of nice small puukkos, I believe he is a maker/member here. Work well for small pocketable fixed blades.
