Hello Everyone,
This knife is an over-sized puukko. It has about 800 layers of W2 and low manganese 1075, and about 4 layers of 15N20 for some contrast.

The steel is really amazing in this blade. It looks like what I normally use for swords, with a very fine, subtle pattern, with a couple of bold streaks running through.

The hamon is the most vivid and active I have ever created.

The handle is a beautifully-figured piece of curly oak, that I stained with aqua fortis, and the guard is traditional brass.
There are some insect holes in the handle, which I think add character. The wood is heavy, hard, and strong. Very solid. These just make it look more real and interesting.

stats:
oal: 10.5"
blade - 5.5" long
.16" thick at ridge.

This is a thin blade, like a puukko should be. It will be a very good cutter, and large enough to use for just about anything.

There are a couple of scratches from testing on the blade, but they are minimal.

All-in-all, this is a great knife. The surface appearance of the blade will keep you staring at it and moving it in the light for a long time.

$275 plus shipping.

thanks,

Really nice. How thick is the handle, any spine shots to see the thickness of the scales?

It is a hidden tang, with the tang coming to within an inch of the end of the handle. There aren't any scales, just a solid piece of wood. I will try to get a spine shot and handle shot today.

thanks, Doc. Honestly, I am probably going to do a run of pattern welded stuff inspired by puukkos. I love them, and I want to play with both the subtle and the more vivid pattern welding.

I have found a collaborator to make sheaths with me, I think, too. He is an artist in my town. So, we will do a run of things together.
