Big o blade! Good looking knife Matt

What is the steel?

Thank you gazz98
The steel is 1095 high carbon...
The design was based off an original

Like the look of the knife. Wouldn't have picked ash myself, but it's not my knife, so as long as the owner is happy, that's all that matters.

Thank you Keith. I would have added some color to the ash, but the owner is happy so all is good. Thanks again

Very cool looking blade Matt. I notice you don't use choils on you're blades very often. I made a bowie with a choil on it, but found it did nothing but lose leverage when doing close cuts. I was curious however, what you use to quench your 1095 blades in. Seems like every medium has some sort of trade-off. I would prefer to stick to a more traditional method. Thanks for the pics.
Randy.

Wow! That is a big handful of a knife......I'm glad you have a happy customer!

Hello R.C. Reichert:
If I make a knife with or without a choil,
I like to use oil to harden my blades once the steel is brought to the proper even temp.

thank you again
Matt
