Hello Everyone,

At a recent knife show I stopped and talked with Sal and handled a prototype of a very large Spyderco knife with a black G-10 handle and a 5 to 5 1/2 inch blade with a standard sized hole. At the time, I believe it was slated for production, but they were unsure of a date since the company was at production capacity.

Can anyone shed some light on when this knife might be put into production?

What will the final configuration and specifications be?

If Sal is taking suggestions, I'd love a 12mm hole like the Military.

Thanks for the input.

Is this the Buffoon?
Err... Buffalo?
Err... Bison?

I thought the Millie and the Yo both used a 14mm hole... which is the size I like.

It could be the Bison or Buffalo.

It was unnamed when I talked with Sal.

My suggestion was the "Texican" which is what people from Texas were called around the time of the Alamo and our legal carry blade length in Texas is 5 1/2 inches.

Any idea on the specifications or a release date on the Bison or Buffalo?

The Military has a 14 mm hole.
The Chinook has a 14.5 mm hole.

For me, the bigger the better.

Man, would I EVER like to see this happen! YIPPEE! :) :p I too would like to see the biggest possible opening hole.

Saw the Bison prototype in NYC a few weeks back, Sal mentioned that IF it goes into production, it will probably carry a name with a stronger connection to Texas. It appeared that he's still gauging response to this one, since the size does severely limit the number of places where it can be carried (at least legally) and thus, at least in theory, the potential market. I liked the looks of it and will certainly add one to my collection if it becomes a reality.

Sorry... I think Bison is the working name. *grin*

It does sound like it could be a VERY nifty little piece, but not exactly legal to carry in a bunch of states. :(

A 4" blade folder is about as big as I would ever buy.

Legal size aside, if I need bigger than 4" I would go to a fixed blade.

"bison" isn't a very "rolls-off-the-tongue" name. i think it's cool to link the knife to Texas, if that's the gag, but better names could be had. something more classy and timeless (ie: like Delica, Endura, Ronin, etc.)... "Bison" sounds kinda hairy, and dirty to me. but maybe that's how most like 'em. ;)

There would certainly be no problem with that blade length here in Canada. I sure hope it happens!

On a funny note gents, a B&M dealer told me that the names "Maddox" and "Manix" were driving his staff crazy at times.

Who needs a piddlin' li'l 5.5" blade when you can get a real knife, like the Gibbs CUDA MAXX with its 7" blade? :D

one of the few times I'm happy to live in communist canada.... no length items in our laws...

I'd like to see a 5" Spyderco with a good point, like the Chinook II or the Persian; a lockback; and, fully ambidextrous for both tip up and tip down carry.

If it had a big ol' clip point, "Texican" would be perfect. But I like Bison as well. Either would be a wonderful homage to our frontier heritage.

Mr. Glesser could call it "Sweet Boy Punk Knife" and I'd still buy two.
