I'm in the mood to pick up a Large Stockman knife. No real reason for it just because I don't own a big stockman and want to try one out :D . I was hoping somebody here might have a comparison picture of GEC #81 vs GEC #82 vs Case #75 patterns. Also any thoughts you guys might have on them. Just at first glance it seems like the #82 Dixie would carry the best with it's rounded frame, slim muskrat clip main, and wharn instead of sheep secondary. Also any other models I should be looking at. I'm open to anything except the imports, this one's gotta be USA made - just a stockman thing in my head I guess.

Thanks,

Greg

I like the Schrade USA 881. I stand a little taller with one in my pocket. :)

Here you go.

Excellent pictures! Thanks a bunch, that is exactly what I was looking for. I'm kinda leaning towards the Dixie. It's just different than most other big stockmans and that intrigues me.

I like the Buck 307 - made by Camillus - discontinued in the 90's. There are plenty running around. Very cool knife - fit, finish, and action are all great. Built like a tank. You might even be able to open a tank with one of these. Here's a pic along side my medium case stock man.

Of course for a big Stockman a Schrade Old Timer 858 Lumberjack is nothing to sneeze at - open view and laying beside a 4" Schrade 8OT. OH

Ok. I just ordered a Tidioute Dixie in Osage Orange. I also plan on picking up a Case yellow 3375 in CV as well. This should scratch my big stockman itch for now. I will be keeping an eye on the auction site for a USA made Schrade 858 though. That thing is sweet. Also going to be hunting for a yellow Buck 307.

Now the hard part. Waiting for the package.

I thought that related stuff was in just in my Okie area....:D Yellow 307s are out there but you have to travel some to run on to one.
Buck guys are after them to put in their 'collections'. Maybe think about getting a black one and when you run on to someone who knows how to do it well, get them to put on some custom wood scales for you. 300Bucks

I have to post my favorite GEC #53 pattern Cuban stockman. 4⅛" closed, with round bolsters and low lying blades it carries much smaller than you would think.

GEC #81 on left... Case 6375 on right. Both are great knives in every way. The large Case is beefier as far as overall frame and blade thickness.

I don't own a stockman but I love the looks of the 53 cattle knife. my wallet on the other hand absolutely hates the sight of it...:D
