On a weekend backpacking trip I took a Fallkniven A1 as a large knife and it worked like a charm. No complaints what so ever.As a smaller knife,I took a endura with a 50/50 blade, which worked out fine.I was wondering if a SAK would have been better to carry with the big knife? What knife do you all carry with your big knife?Do you carry a big knife? Thanks Ray

It's a good idea to have an SAK or mulitool for fixing things and making things. I carry one of the lock-bladed SAK's called an Adventurer. The 3.25" blade is good for preparing small to medium game and the other tools are handy around camp. I wish the blade was made of a tougher alloy, but I've cleaned several rabbits with no sign of wear.

When hunting I like to carry a small to medium folder with a high quality blade. I have a Puma Sportec with a D2 blade that is my current favorites. One thing I want is a slim point to get inside the pelvis of a rabbit for cleaning.

Hey Razor....

Well depending on what I'm doing I've been known to carry 3 knives in the bush at once...

Right now I usually take my Busse #7 a Fallkniven FI and I never leave without my Swiss Army RUK...

The Ruk is an excellent model as a daily use knife as it has pretty much everything you need in a survival tool...

You don't need to go overboard,, 2 knives are plenty depending on what you are doing.. I just hate leaving a favorite knife at home.. LOL

I prefer to carry two folders most of the time now. One is a single bladed liner locking Buck. Great knife for general use.

The second is an Officers model SAK with large and small blade, sawblade and scissors. It has a hole punch/awl, phillips screwdriver, can opener, bottle opener/screwdriver, and a fish scaler.

These along with a good fixed blade can do almost everything I need a knife to do!

You can't go wrong carrying a SAK rucksack, forrester, or other SAK with a lock blade and a saw. Between that and your large knife you should be well equipped.

On the woods I carry a Gerber ax (14 inch), Cold Steel four inch locking tanto, and SAK SwissChamp.

In the handle of the Gerber are 30 size 12 and size 14 treble hooks, 80 feet of 50 pound test braided Spyderwire; and a magnesium firestarter cut to fit -- and attached by a stout nylon cord to a three inch piece of hacksaw blade, and a P-38 canopener. Scraping MFS dulls knives. You can grip hacksaw blade with ViseGrip WR5 pliers. MFS has three coats clear nail polish to retard corrosion.

The endura is a great choice, though I'd opt to delete the serrations. A second fixed blade such as a F1, to match your A1 or Spydeco Moran.
Can't go wrong with a Sebenza
Take care and be safe,
Chad

I carry the TOPS Anaconda 9. Plus, I carry the Victorinox Ruchsack SAK, and it is carried in a kydex neck rig made by Normark!!!

Wave Tool, SuperTool, or whatever multi-tool you prefer. They are much more useful than a SAK or a single edged folder.

Leatherman Wave more often instead of Buck 110. Gerber Gator in the survival belt-pouch as backup. I would prefer locking blades (one problem with many SAKs) not much longer than 3.5 inches. Wave has locking blades (one plain clip point, one serrated sheep foot?).

If monetary situ will allow, Benchmade Pinnacle will join the club....
(I believe it is a good compromise between price and quality.)

I've used both SAK and Leatherman multi-tools while backpacking over the years, served me well, although the Leatherman was a bit heavy.

OK, if you can deal with the weight, a M9 bayonet with a Leatherman wave in a pouch on the M9, and then a BM Nimravus Cub M2 steel for a smaller fixed blade. In my pocket you will find a Leatherman Micra and a GT mini-auto. I also like my A1 Fallkniven with a F1 attached to the A1 sheath with rubber bands or tape in a special sheath I made and the SAK is always someplace on me or my gear.

For the second "knife" I usually carry a Buck 110 when afield. I use the large fixed for the chopping, digging and other stuff that I do not want to do with my cutting edge.

A Sebenza is, of course, excellant, but I usually leave it at home when camping, hunting, etcetera.

I put knife in quotes because I like carrying a Leatherman SuperTool in addition to the large fixed blade. Though the 110 or Sebenza is much used afield, I would leave both for the SuperTool - if that were the rules, (only one other blade).

I used to carry a Chris Reeve Project on my webbing order, a Blackjack Mamba folder on my stable belt and a SAK (must have blades, scissors and saw) in my front pocket on a string. The SAK was the most important as it could not get lost.

I use a Wave quite often now, but revert back when on any real adventure. It workes for me.
