There have been a lot of edc threads lately and it got me to thinking.........wifey says that can be a dangerous thing  .......anyway I see that a lot of folks carry knives in the 3.0" range (blade length) or less. I know that this is probably a more practical blade length to carry from the standpoint of usability and the legalities of carrying larger blades, but I still feel "knifeless" if i don't have that large edc in my right front pocket. I like to carry at least a 3.5" bladed folder (Sebenza), but prefer something longer! I currently have a couple of Smith folders at 3.75", and just received another Smith (LDC-5) that is 4.0" in length w/ overall length of 9.5". I would term these in the large range and know several of you out there carry even larger....up to 6.0" blade or longer, these being the XL range. I would consider anything above 4.0" bladed knife to be an XL.

So I guess my question is this; who carrys large to X-large, and what is it?

I made one of my Sirocco models with a 4.5 inch 3/16 inch thick blade but I made the handle slabs from 1/8th inch thick Ti, made a nice large but slim package and I have had it in my pocket everyday since it was done.It replaced a 4 inch Banshee with a Ti blade that I carried for about four months.I feel naked with anything smaller than 4 inches.Pic of it below.

Greco Whisper fixed blade. Blade length 5.25" - it goes in a shoulder harness or hip carry on most days. It would go with me everyday if I had a kydex sheath for it, but I keep putting off getting one.

My 2 favorites are the Cuda Maxx and CS Gunsite(the big one). I don't carry them much during the week when I'm at work. But on the weekends there's a good chance that one or the other is in my pocket.

For a general EDC knife, I think 4 inches is a good length. I always carry my Spyderco Military. (4 inch blade)

I carry a PE S30V Military 90 % of the time.I am planning on getting one of the new black blade CE models at blade.

One of my 2 EDC's is my Benchmade 805...It has a blade that 3.93 inches long, but it seems longer as the grip is long (5.43 inches)...The knife is 9.36 inches long when opened.

I've also been known to carry my Cold Steel Vaquero Grande...It sports a 6 inch fully-serrated blade, and is 13 & 1/4 inches long when opened..

BM 806D2... and proud of it :D I love this knife, I've chopped thru 1/2" thick branches in one swipe and not affected the lockup one bit. I love the near 4" blade length because there's so much cutting edge to use; that and the G10 makes me feel all warm and fuzzy ;)

Benchmade 42MC balisong, 4.2". Does that count?

I actually prefer smaller blades, since I find them easier to work with (I have slender hands anyway). 3.25-3.5" is just about right.

Madd Maxx 5.5" almost always. New BM 630 is riding around with me currently. On special occasions I carry a Madd Maxx Gibbs at 7".

I'm with Powells85, BM806 D2. I've only had it a couple of weeks but it has sure grown on me.

Another Spyderco Military PE S30V here. It is extremely comfortable to carry, and I use it almost every day.

Buck/Strider 880T forever! :) Carry mine in a Raine Sheath, nice combo and love it.

I always carry one of these:

1. Benchmade 806D2 - 3.9"
2. Lone Wolf Harsey Tactical - 4.8"
3. Lone Wolf T2 Ranger - 4"

I have but have not started carrying yet a Benchmade 630 - 4.3"

I have carried a 5-1/2" folder nearly every day for more than three years. My first was a REKAT Sifu. That was replaced by a Camillus Maxx Bowie once they became available. Last year I switched from the Maxx to a Camillus Aftermath, which is what I'm carrying now.

I love the Sifu's blade shape and grip, but I prefer the Maxx's materials, lock, guards, and flipper. I suspect that one reason I like the Aftermath so well is that it merges what I consider the best aspects of both designs. (I'm neutral about the assited-opening.)

Finally, after all the posts from people looking for a Para-Military (an answer for which there was no question) and trading in their Large Sebenzas for small ones, a bunch of guys with the right attitude!

Anyway, I currently EDC:
- Lone Wolf Harsey
- Surefire Alpha
- Spyderco Police Model
- Strider SnG

And I'm anxiously awaiting my BM 630 and "Thatcherized" EKI Commander so I can add those to my rotation.

I think I have to change my sig line to "Don't carry no small knives". :D

i carry a emerson spec war CQC8 (4"), a crawford perfigo (4.5"), or darrel ralph maxx (5.5") or cammilus maxx.

Lets not forget about that massive RJ Martin Avenger that's on its way to you! I'd call that one XL as well.
