Larger Stockmans vs smaller ones.

Well, something I didn't realize, & I don't know if there's a difference, but the Lg. Queen Stockman I have is actually a Queen #9 Stockman.

I don't know if there's a difference between Queen's #9 & their current Stockman that's 4" closed.

I also agree with comments about handle thickness, spring #'s, etc.

I am sorry for you guys of this thread that the Buck 307 is discontinued. Some available on auction sites. Here's the whole ball of wax, oldest in back, it says 307 on reverse of tang, then Buck,307,USA and then a few years in late 80's before the axe fell, BUCK on escutcheon, a yellow scale middle model but I have only seen two, one available somewhere now. All were made by Camillus and most likely were 440A. I have never seen a small nail nic clip blade .

I have been using a 6375 now for about a year. At first I thought it would be too big as I had a 4318. It doesn't matter, they both work very well and ride in the pocket great!

#9 Large Stockman 4"
#49 Cattle King 4 1/4"
#26 Small Stockman 3 1/4"

I like the looks and feel of a medium size stockman, in the 3-1/2" to 3-9/16" range, with rounded bolsters but I find little use for a spey blade for any cutting I do. I sometimes carry a Schrade 899 with a punch on the end, and always keep my eye out for the uncommon Case 6318HE with the Clip, Sheep, Pen combination. The 4" stockman is good when I know I might need the heavier clip.

I've personally got an old Ka-Bar 1100 that carries pretty well. My Case 3254 full size trapper carries pretty well too though - it's longer, but about the same thickness, and the blades sit pretty fair into the handle. They'd both probably be a bit much for anything dressier than jeans though, unless carried in a jacket pocket or something. I generally prefer med-large size slip joints if they're going to be a stand-alone knife, especially with stockmans because you still get the smaller blades, but if I'm carrying one in addition to a 3-4" locking blade, I'd probably prefer something smaller, like my Schrade 330T or a peanut.

3 1/2"
Not large and not small.
The main clip is big enough to do real work.
The knife has enough heft in the hand to feel good
And it is a great knife

Thanks for the information 300Bucks. I have one of the black ones in the front. Dont use it because its a more than a had to big and I think the shortblades is to thick. It doesnt cut as easy as Id like a slipjoint to do. Amazing quality though.
