For several years I've gone fishing a couple times a year with my friend Larry. He's never asked for anything in return. He just retired and I thought a knife would make a great gift and a thank you for the great fishing trips. The blade is W-2 and its 4 1/2", sambar stag handle with iron fittings. 9" overall. He also does a fair amount of hunting so I thought this style would work for both.

I mean this as a compliment, it looks like an ancient knife that was found in a treasure stash. I really like the look of the iron fittings and warm colors in the stag. Lucky friend.

Hey RR, :)

Nice knife! How'd you finish the fittings? Thanks for sharing, both with your friend AND us.

All the best, Phil

All the fittings I do are first textured with a dull rotary file. I used cold blue on this one but will normally heat color them. This blade had another handle at one time so the guard was already affixed to the blade so I didn't want to use a torch to color it.

Larry must be a great friend! I know you are a good friend to him also. He'll treasure that knife Raymond!

Beautiful as always Raymond. Thats a great gift.

I'm sure he will love it, Raymond. It's personal gifts like this that meen so much more than some store bought item off the shelf.

Really nice knife and gift.

Great job as usuall, you always do great work. I am sure he will love it and treasure it always.

I just sent this knife off to Larry so if he's home Monday he should get it. He had mentioned going on a fishing trip in Alaska. Maybe after he gets this knife he'll invite me on the next one. :D

I've got several other smaller blades in the works. I kind of got on a big knife kick for a few months. Not sure if anyone noticed but this blade shape is real similar to the Marble's Woodcrafter blade. After making a couple blades of this style Nessmuk had entered my mind. Add a hump and thats pretty much what you get. Glad you guys are liking this one!

Another beautiful and lively knife Ray! Larry's a lucky guy, both getting this knife and having had your company on all those fishing trips. He's gonna love this. Thanks for sharing!
