Hi Friends,

You never know what good awaits you around the next corner. This time it came in the form of Larry Shaughnessy selling some nice blocks of wood in the For Sale forum. I guess he saw one of my posts somewhere whining about how poor I am, being a school art teacher and all. So he makes me an offer I couldn't refuse by gifting some wood for the cause and selling me a few choice blocks at cut rate prices. Here they are, all the way from the frozen north of Minnesota to the tropics of Hawaii.

Thanks Larry. Can you help me ID these puppies? Let me know how close my guesses are.

  1. Photo#1 natural walnut
  2. Photo#2 natural maple (curly?).
  3. Photo#3 is trickier...
    • Top left two, stabilized spaulted maple?
    • Middle top two, stabilized redwood burl?
    • Top right one, stabilized? ______?
    • Bottom left, natural ______?
    • Bottom right, natural maple burl
  4. Photo#4, I'm confused about these, guess some are redwood, but which ones, and what's the other stuff? Are they all natural? Some seem pretty heavy.
Thanks again Larry. The stuff looks GREAT!

All the best, Phil

I believe the top right one is iron wood and the bottome left is black ash burl! I get all of my blocks and wood scales from larry and he is one hell of a guy to deal with, he has to be one of the most generous people I have ever met.
If any of you get the chance to deal with Larry, have no reserves, he is top notch!!!
Jason
P.S. it looks like the last picture is of natural curly redwood. Just my guess!

Hi Folks,

Looks like I submitted this thread when I meant to preview it. The title was unfinished as was my post. Here's the rest of the story...

It all started with Jack ONeill and his shop inventory reduction sale. I bought some of his camphor scales at a very affordable price. Next thing I know I get a second box in the mail with a gift of some more scales as seen in the attached photo. The camphor scales are in the big bundle on the top left. Right of that are some curly maple scales and below left bloodwood and below right bocate.

THANKS Jack!

All the best, Phil

Looks like you scored well. Is there a website to see these wonders for sale?

OK quit teasing a link please!

Go to the for sale forum and look for his name. Or, click on his name in this thread and look under statistics for the threads he has started.
