I am about ready to start packing for Beinfeld's Las Vegas Invitational Custom Knifemakers Show this coming weekend at the Rivera, anyone else from the forum going?

Hi, Ed, I won't be going but hope you have a good time at the show. Post some pics of the knives you're taking, if you're able to. I can host them for you if you need. Will you still be in chat tonight?

Jose: Yes will be in chat, hope to see you there.
Win: Looking forward to meeting you.

Hey Ed
will you be carrying any double bevel fighters?
need you to shrink that one down a size and call it Willow Bow NY Special
Have Great show

Interesting -- this is the first info about the LV show I have seen. No website via a googly search. Ed do you have an url? Also, did anyone notice (or care) that the ECCKS is the same weekend as Little Rock? It is also earlier than usual. Wonder how the weather will be? I'm still surprised that Blade is on the Memorial Day weekend.

The Blade Show is the weekend after Memorial Day. Good excuse to take the whole week off. :D

Oh, you are right Joe. I was forgetting the Monday was actually in June and not in May. Whew! I could just imaging the hotel rates. I have to talk to Roger more about the location etc. Wonder if I can park my Van in the lot at the show? Will have to find out from someone what temperatures are like as if too hot, might be better to get a room. Then again if the markets crash like today, all may change -- who knows.

January 18,19,20 2008 at the Rivera Resort and Casino.
Last year it was one of my most rewarding shows, I got to meet the Huber Bowie I have written about.
The show is one of the origonal knife shows, known as the "Las Vegas Invitational Custom Knifemakers Show", many early makers got their start at this show. At one time it was about the only game in the US.

I go to this show because I live fairly close but it has lost a lot of appeal over the last couple of years. Seems each year I find a maker that I like and the next year they're not attending this show.

When it was the same weekend as SHOT it was rockin'! A lot of fun with the Strider crew, Ken Onion,
Tom Mayo, Ernie Emerson, Todd Begg and a lot of others.

See ya'll there... hope to get to bump into you again Win.
Crowd was down last year , as were makers in attendance , but it was a nice relaxed atmosphere without mass chaos.

a good primer for SHOT in a few weeks :)

My work schedule restricts me to Friday only. I'll look out for you guys...

Enjoy,
Mike

Would like to attend LV show, but always so close to Reno. A few years ago they were on the same weekend if I remember correctly.

Ran: There will not be many of those double bevel fighters, you have one of six and it is a special one that I will never forget. Doing them right is a real challenge that I enjoy greatly, each is a little different. I made a couple of small ones, but I am not real positive they would be legal in New York no matter how small they were.

I'm not positive but I believe any clip point or double edged blade would be illegal here. Max is 4" blade length and you can't carry concealed.

Nice meeting you today Ed.

Show was small , I hung out for a few hours , saw some old friends , bought some knifemaking supplies , even though K&G were the only ones there with knifemaking supplies.

If it rains Sunday I will go back for the day perhaps. I have a feeling this show is dying a slow death , not like it was 3-4 years ago in my opinion.

Lots of nice slip-joints though. Ruple was sold out by the time I got in the show at 9:15.

I hate to say this again, because some good friends of mine support the show, but when I went 2 years ago, I thought that it was the lamest knife show that I had been to since Pasadena, which absolutely ROCKED last year..my feeling was that the Las Vegas show did not ROCK.

Frankly, these days, they had better ROCK, otherwise, why bother showing up?...Makers are doing personal virtual knife shows on the web, and they are also holding their own micro-shows, which brings the collector to the maker, rather than the traditional model, vice versa.

The biggie that I saw was that the makers were not bringing their best stuff to the show, lackluster work, and attitudes with them...that does not say much good for a show, IMO.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Jose.....you have it backwards. You MUST carry your sub-4 incher blade concealed in NYC. There was an article recently about the Trnsport Policd arresting a guy for "showing clip" on the subway. You will be busted if any part of the knife is showing. As for double edges or clips. there doesn't appear to be anything like that in the NYC law.
