Laser Engraving Question?

I have a knife that has a sand blasted finish. I brought it to a laser engraving shop to have my logo placed, but the technician told me that he is not sure how it will come out since he has not tried it yet on that kind of finish. Usually they do it on a smooth surface finish and not on a rough sandblasted one. The material is
CPM S35VN stainless

Anyone here had ever tried it on a sand blasted knife ( not glass blasted ).

I've had it done over a black oxide finish (which is sand blast prepped).
