Just curious about other peoples opinions on the newer 4th Gen XM-18's with laser engravings. While I like the horse head logo i personally am not crazy about the huge blade steel engraving on the other side. I understand they did this to make it more difficult to replicate a fake hinderer but wouldn't the horse logo be enough? Idk, the "USA S30V" in huge back letters makes the blade look very commercial as oppose to custom.

Thats just my 2 cents

I merged your 3 locked threads.....Rob

It's Rick's current design. There have been Past and there will be Future - this is Current.
Past that don't see the point in discussing it unless at some point Rob starts a thread "Polling" opinions on design variants.
The "Customs" have a completely different Blade treatment. The Production models have the Laser etchings Horse Head, Blade steel, USA.

Im aware there are past and present designs. What i asked was for peoples opinions about whether they like or dont like the look of the current Hinderer with laser etchings.

I read what you asked. I am not going to espouse any motivation to why someone clearly states their "opinion" as not liking something while asking
others for their opinion, it is a pointless exercise UNLESS the one asking is the designer and contemplating choices.

Does anyone know any cheaper alternatives to the Hinderer Spanner tool? I cant seem to justify spening almost 100$ for a tiny little tool. Or if someone is selling a used one PM me please!

I've adjusted (and could have taken my XM's apart if had an 5/64th Allen key) with 11 cents.

I used a gerber shard which is almost a perfect fit. I will get the tool down the road however.

This is the Correct Tool for the Job.

I use pennies when I misplace my Delrin tools. A normal penny for the scale side, & a penny with a filed away divot for the frame side. A small round file will quickly remove the copper or a dremmel would be my second choice. If your worried about scratches you can put a piece of tape over the penny.
That's my 2 cents, literally.

I prefer the Hinderer tool to all other options, that's why I own one. In a pinch, it's amazing what a little MacGyver thinking can accomplish...but my preference really is to use the proper tool for any given task.

Mod your two cents is worth a million, I'll be adding 2cents minus 2mm of copper to my EDC, so my hinderer tool can stay home and safe...... And to N2k, you don't know it but your posts mde me a pond scum addict.

If you're planning on owning a Hinderer for awhile, I'd also suggest biting the proverbial bullet and get one. It's convenient and you only need one for a whole collection of XM's.

And it's a really really nice tool, can't believe how well the spanner fits the split bushing.... It locks in like its magnetic..which is why I'm scared of losing it.......

Got the steel tool at $75, they only relatively recently came into stock and prior to this they were very hard to get and rarely appeared on the sales board.

The tool is a piece of quality gear, very well made and works too.

I searched for about 8 months to find one in good condition, prior to this I used a couple of stainless steel washers filed to fit the slot screw and pivot, if the tools were still scarce I'd shoot you a pic of the washer tool I made but seriously, get the correct tool while they are readily available.

Excellent advice. Snooze and lose. More items seem to be available more often but nothing is guaranteed available at any given time.

All I did was buy a Hinderer scale, put it on my knife and post a few photos on the Internet. Your choice to select it and Hinderer making it get the real credit.

In the early days before the armorers tool and makeshift tools I used both my thumbs, a lotta force and gritted teeth.

ModifiedZ, tell me about your delrin tools, are they home made? I used to machine a LOT of delrin :D
