Laser etching coming off blade

Hi guys,

First let me say that in no way is it BladeHQ's fault that the laser etching is coming off our blades. That wouldn't make any sense. We send them knives, they sell them.

Secondly we had a problem with our laser etching machine so a few batches of knives went out that shouldn't have. We were unaware of that problem since you would need to EDC or use the knives a few times to discover the problem.

If anyone is noticing this problem please send it back to us and we'll take care of it for you. Sorry for any inconvenience. This problem is obviously covered under warranty so we will also cover the shipping for you as well.

Thank you,
EmersonREP

Emerson makes it Right Again!
This is just one of the reasons I buy Emerson knives.

i got a cqc 13 for my birthday in December. and it literally had etching on it.

the etching was barely on it when i got.

Yes but EmersonRep said they would warranty the problem. I use the word PROBLEM, NOT ISSUE. as I find problems are solved, dealt with faster than an issue, so send the knife in ASAP.

To me an issue is today's newspaper, tomorrows trash can liner, bird cage bottom seed & doo doo catcher, or something to put dead fish in.

Just writing, don't sweat it, still cuts:D

Well in the original POST that was removed the purchaser indicated the Knife made in 2014 had significance, as they were married in 2014. So to them the etching was a big deal.

I also made a comment as it was purchased from BladeHQ, this was the SECOND like situation from that vendor. I do not know there procedure for Shipping & Receiving. But years ago I work in a company that did a big retail, and also mail order business?

We sold a lot of items that were high dollar. Inbound item when the shipments where checked, and boxes opened, and item were inspected. So when they were sent to customers were were sure we were sending out only good stuff.

We actually dropped several items from our catalog, and print ads because of shoddy QC. The boss was ex military, he had high standards, and did not send out anything he personally would not be happy with.

I left that job a different person that he hired, because of some of his almost anal attention to detail rubbed off on me. Many years later in my own business, I realized that these anal traits may have set me apart from the competition.

Like I said I understood the importance of the "etching" to the person who seen the etching as a reminder of a very important date in their life. 2014 the Year of their Marriage. Maybe the knife will be in a display case, maybe the knife was a gift from their new life partner, spouse? But I got the reason.

Pennypincher, my friend, we all may have ideas as to how someone should run their business to make the world a better place. I may agree with you but that doesn't change a thing on the ground. Sometimes leaving well enough alone is well enough. Let the brook flow its course. Although I think we all may have an idea as to how to change the world.

In a perfect world we would never have anything but boredom. No chance to achieve any goals, or strive for perfection. When I had my business, I strived on each assignment to do the BEST I could do on every assignment.

As those assignment were like a job interviews, if you were the best, gave the best effort, and produced great images the photo editor I was working was happy he hired me. It almost alway lead to more, work, or replete business.

These is an old saying about there is time to do thing right the second time, but why was there not time to do it right the first time? In my business we did not many times get a second chance to cover a News event after the fact. You had only one chance at doing it right.

Maybe that is why I am who I am, and have what some people feel is too high a standard, or bar I hold other too.

So maybe it is better to strive for perfection, or the best job performance, or product. Than starting off string for a passing grade, or acceptable product.

General Motor the one great auto manufacturing company, has become a victim of producing less then the quality product they were one know for. Had it not been for governmental bailouts that auto giant would be history like some of the brand names associated with GM. Oldsmobile, Pontiac, and Saturn, GM Divisions that were and are no more.

Usually, I prefer a sterile blade and can't wait for markings to wear off or remove them myself. In this case though, I can see the reason for the sentiment. It's great to see that EKI is doing something about it.

This is all well and good. I just want us to be cognizant of what we post because we may open the door to drama queens who love to make drama for everyone. So when we question the business practices of a company in our forum we are actually inviting it.

EmersonRep already said he's not letting any drama go down. How embarrassing would it be for us to get shut down in our own forum by our own company rep? Asking if there may be a bigger problem than the percieved problem is an open invitation for shenanigans alright.

We must think how someone else may take the ball and run with it before we post. I think so.

huh….was wondering why my cqc7v was doing this…tbh i like the look it gives :) wonder how long till its completely gone

@EmersonREP, I don't seem to have the option to PM you for some reason. I just got home to a new CQC 7 in the mail. It's from knifeworks.com and manufactured in 2013. I noticed that the laser etching seemed very light and sure enough when I rubbed it with my finger it started to come off. I remembered seeing your post about this so I looked it up to verify. It's not a big deal but I would like to have it taken care of. I've been looking forward to getting this knife and am not eager to turn around and ship it out again for a week or so. Do I have to take care of this right away or can I send it in down the road, perhaps when it's due for a sharpening or something. Just want to make sure I handle this the right way. Thanks

Only members with paid memberships can use the PM feature. Is there any chance you can return the knife to Knifeworks for an exchange? I understand you not eager to ship it back, but that would be the fastest way to get it taken care of, give the retailer a chance to make it right.

It's a lifetime warranty so you can ship it back anytime, but I recommend you do it sooner than later.
