I recently had a friend who has a fiber laser put a logo on a few of my blades--his laser (as well as most out there) couldn't etch the steel so the other option is that you spray a coating on your blade in the area where you want your mark, and the laser transforms this coating into a ceramic--for all intents and purposes permanently. It came out super precise and looked really good--the only issues is the 'pre-ceramic spray' is about $50 a can and he would have had to charge me $10 per knife to put the mark on all my knives like that. I will tell you that I called around several likely suspects here in the Burbs of Atlanta, and I currently have about 100 knives that need marking--and I found a shop that took all the info and quoted me $2 a blade. For just one mark, I would expect to encounter a higher charge---now there are some industrial shops that have lasers capable of cutting/etching blade steel, but that's another subject--Marcus Mullhauser marks his knives this way and he built me one and it came out beautiful--Marcus is a great guy, and extremely helpful, so you may want to give him a call.
Good luck to you--Don
