Laser Strike & ESEE4

Thanks for the pics.

If you had to choose one of those two blades, which would you choose and why?

Okay I have been using the ESEE4 for a long while and just having the LS for a few days I can tell you w/o a doubt the LS will become my favorite of the whole ESEE line up.

I receive the Laser Strike and being I never got a chance at the 2001 version ,I do recall the article in Sept.2001 issue of TK and thought whoa now that is a knife that could fit my needs but I never was able to purchase the Laser Strike back in 2001.
Well let's jump ahead to 2011 and the Rowen proto type Laser Strike

Fit... fits my needs as an outdoor tool
Finish... well the 1095 blade is still one of the easier to maintain ,whether in the field or at home, being 1095 steel , the blade was powder coated for the best protection against the elements.
The 1095 Blade length 5" and a thickness of 3/16th. and an OAL of 10"

Micarta scales provide a secure grip and plenty of hand space for all.
The Bow Divot is a bonus for Bushcraft/Survival minded folks and an incentive for the recreational outdoors men/women as well to practice the fire bow drill method.

To me I think ESEE & Rowen hit a home run with the rebirth of the Laser Strike .The Laser Strike for me will Dethrone my current fixed blade Knife(ESEE3MIL) and of course I'll put together a simple PSK to go along with the Laser Strike .

Well thought out back in 2000 and the rebirth of the LS is a dream come true for me and with the subtle change from the original design I think it will be a solid contender for years to come.

Can't wait to get my hands on the LS....

I like the scales a lot. Does RIT dye work on micarta pretty well?

Works excellent (Black Rit)

How does it feel with the bow drill divot on the other side (as opposed to the left side like the 5)?

Right handed friendly as it puts the divot in the palm vs. the original put the divot in your finger tips ....
being a lefty puts the divot on my finger tip side. dont worry I live though :D

The jimping on the LS looks kind of sharp/deep, how does it feel in use (or at least in your hand) ? Sometimes things look uncomfortable, but really aren't. I really like the jimping on the existing ESEE blades.

great comparison pics tony,Well Done! I see me owning a couple of these before the year is over!

Am I the only one that thinks it looks a little wierd?

I love my ESEE3! LS has a weird blade shape.

There are a number of guys who think it looks weird. To me, it looks like a blade which will perform fantastically in the wilderness. Like TTD seems to imply, I have a feeling that when the LS hits my hands the ESEE-4 which I esteem so very highly, will fall from my favor.

God bless,
Adam

All the pics and hype over the LS and I've not really cared a great deal for it. Until now. Side-by-side w/ the ("pink"-scaled) -4 it sure does look nice. My only hold back now is that I really like the ESEE bare assed lanyard hole (get your minds outta the gutter!). I suspect it'd be easy enough to modify the scales myself w/ a dremel, but considering how litigiously persnickety and anal the ESEE warranty is I'm afraid I'd be shooting myself in the foot if I tried.

(Lest it be taken wrong and I get flamed, that last was dripping with sarcasm.)

It's a spear point, which works well for drilling divots in fire boards. The LS was designed to aid in fire making.

the laser strike looks awesome! i cant wait to get my hands on one. thanks for the comparison to the 4.
