Laser Strike opinions

Take a look at the Ontario TAK 1 . 4 1/2" blade and a big comfortable handle . Plus you can probably sell your used ESEE 4 for enough to buy the TAK , so no extra cost

You might look at the blackjack tac ops 4 as well, although a bit handle heavy. Handle is tons better in feel than the esee 3 or 4.

I've never heard of those. I trust they are good knives, it's just confusing.

The Ontario will have lesser heat treat, lesser fit and finish, lesser sheath, lesser warranty, but a lesser price tag. For me the sheath alone would be worth the price to upgrade to the laser strike. To each their own though.

I believe Black Jack makes good knives for the price. On par or better than Esee. Still though, if you want the Esee, get the Esee. You won't be disappointed.

I thought about Blackjack, but there is no customer service contact information on their site. I won't buy from a company like that. It's kind of hard to file a warranty claim that way.

Believe it or not I just found an Ontario SP46 that I forgot about. Does anyone have experience with both the 46 and the Laser Strike? The LS still worth it?

Bark river knives covers all blackjack USA made knife warranties

I called one of their distributors after I posted and they said they only cover manufacture defects, it has to go through them and they pass it on (I believe they said to Bark River), and they are very picky about what they cover. I'm not sure if that's accurate or not.

Well, if you just found an Ontario that is in your possession, use the hell out of it, and if it breaks, get the Esee. I already posted my feelings on the differences between the two companies, so reread above for that information.

Thanks, I wasn't sure if the heat treatment was different with the SP line because I've heard good things about it. Thanks for your help. I'm going to try and get a Blackjack in my hand to see how it feels. It's been a while since I held a Laser Strike but I remember liking it. There probably isn't a bad choice here.

Blackjacks come up on the exchange quite often. Along with Esee, Ontario, and BRKT. And usually at a significant discount. If you up for a gold membership ($30) you can buy these knives to try out. If you like one, keep it. If you don't, resell it on the exchange for little to no loss. This is a great way for many of us knife nuts to test drive knives we will never have a chance to hold and inspect in person before we buy them. Just a thought.

Call Bark River, they're very personable and always accessible. They'll explain to you how it works.

Well, I finally got a Laser Strike in my hand...and wasn't a huge fan. I remember liking it before, but for whatever reason just didn't like it as much. I did however hold a BK16 and absolutely loved it. It was light and just felt perfect in my hand. The Zytel grip surprisingly felt like it had a bit of texture unlike my BK9. Hopefully, I didn't make a bad decision that I'll regret later. If I don't mistreat it I'm hoping I don't have any problems with chips or breaks, so I won't need the ESEE warranty. This is going to be my primary "bushcraft" knife.

So you got a BK16 right? Can't go wrong with that decision.

I did and absolutely love it :) It kind of surprised me, but the textured grips really sold me on it. I thought they would be smooth like my BK9.

Worst factory edge of any blade i have ever bought. Great size and the blade shape is fantastic. Not really a fan of the double choil though, its fairly unnecessary and more of an annoyance than anything. I ended up putting a convex edge on it and works far better. Easier to carry than the six, better sheath, probably the best factory sheath ever (especially with drop down belt loop addition), better carry option than my bark rivers but that double choil can really get in the way however. Even with the worst edge and double choil i still cant help but love it and for $100 with the belt clip drop you cant really go wrong (after you re-edge it).
