Well, UPS has totally denied the claim on the trashed sewing macine. They are pointing the finger at the shipper, Mr. Ron Roy. Not giving any specific reason, just saying no. It's been a month since this whole thing started, and this is how UPS has decided to handle it.

Now, I believe in giving anybody a fair shake. I always trust someone till they give me a reason not to. It's worked all my life. I no longer trust UPS with my stuff. I think it's safe to say that I have been very reasonable and patient through all this crap. Because I firmly believed things would work out in a common sense, rational way. Not so! They have shown me that they don't care, and that they are not concerned with me, Mr. Roy, or my stuff. If I have to drive 100 miles to send my stuff through FED-EX, I will.

Mr. Roy, the shipper of the sewing machine, called me today and explained that UPS (Un-Professional Shippers) denied the claim and sent the machine to their insurance company for evaluation. Now, it's between Mr. Roy and the insurance company and he has no other option except to hire a lawyer and sue UPS. He is voluntarily re-funding my money including shipping because he feels it's the right thing to do. He is more concerned about the inconvenience to me than to himself. He is a very rare individual. He already sent me $200.00 through PayPal just because he could. He's sending the rest by snail mai.

I know it's asking alot, but if anybody out there has experienced this kind of bologna with UPS, please email Mr. Roy with words of encouragement( ChewyToy1@aol.com ). He could use any help you can offer to fight this madness. This is just the first step for me in exposing this lame excuse for a shipping company's rear end to whoever will listen. If UPS gets enough flack over this and other incidents like it, it may encourage them to change their policies. But, only if enough people voice their opinions. Kind of like voting for the President. If I have my way, their customer service email box will be crammed so full, they'll have to hire more people just to read all of it.

Please, if you've been bashed by UPS, join this fight to help stop the stupidity. You can think I'm lame if you want to. But, I'm getting ready to chap some asses, and I'm not stopping until I see some change. I'm not going to do anything illegal. I'm just going to tell the truth and let people decide for themselves how they want to deal with it. Instead of posting messages like this, I'd rather have better service. That's all this is about, really. If you want to play a part in this, the tracking number for this little fiasco is: 1Z170X860339015485. If you want more particulars, email me and I'll be glad to fill you in.

Think what you want, I'm just tired of the continuing abuse and 'oh well' attitude by the biggest shipping company in the world. Everyone makes mistakes. But, in our society, you have to pay for them or the world gets out of balance. I am finished.

I can say that after ordering several items, I am more fond of USPS priority. Every time I have ordered it's take no longer than 3 days. UPS has taken up to 7 days. When I got my BM 750 from UPS yesterday they left it out on my trash can sitting on the curb. I also live next to an elementry school, I'm sure one of these kids would love this knife.
They don't come in the yard because I have a German Sheperd (even though she's sweet as can be). But I can understand that, what I can't figure out is why they would leave it out for everyone. If they left me a note I would be happy to go and pick it up. This was not the first time either. They once left a $500.00 North Face jacket on porch of a house next door while it was raining and there was no one home at either address. This was supposed to be a signed for package.
Nope I will stick with the USPS when ever possible.

I used to be a UPS shipping guy at a Mail Boxes Ect. store. UPS is a big rip off, so is MBE. Stay away! Go Postal!
Priority rules,

I quit shipping anything thru ups a while back. Never did like them!

Yep. No surprise here. The Big Brown Gestapo eventually screws everyone from their employees to you.

I think their company motto must be "UPS YOUR"

If at all possible with all the different shipping options available today, its best not to use UPS.They are very expensive on top of the poor service factor. They never lost one of my packages, but they left my dad's Smith and Wesson 357.mag revolver from Smith & Wesson sitting outside on the front porch unsecured, that should have needed a signature.Bet ya the neighborhood kids would have loved to get their hands on that.UPS stinks!I ship USPS Priority every chance I get, with the exception of Automatics.

Last month I was walking into my local Post Office and noticed a UPS brown truck in front, a UPS driver was just leaving the counter. The USPS clerk was laughing quietly, I asked why,,,,he stated the UPS drivers will stop and mail their personal packages via USPS because they do not trust UPS to deliver without damage/loss etc.

I good friend is in the mail order retail business and when I told him the story he stated that USPS is almost impossible to collect insurance claims for loss or damage,,,,UPS is much easier and he has very little problems. I have received via UPS several packages with damaged goods,,,,called the retail shop and they immediately shipped replacement,,,,some requested return via UPS driver who came to office for pick-up....several retailers stated "keep the damaged goods" and we will ship another replacement because UPS will reimburse us.

In addition,,,USPS never looses a package, "It has not been delivered yet".....that may take weeks, months, years,,,lost package = no insurance claim.

When ever I ship a knife it is described as "Cutting Tool" or "Machined Cutting Tool" on the UPS form. Also use initials for knife company address "BKI" = Buck Knives Inc. do not spell out name of company if it associates with item in package.

I have heard disaster stories with USPS, UPS, Fed EX and DHL as shipers.

Regards,
FK

UPS caters to big mail-order companies. Of course they take care of them. But when it comes to you and I, it is practically UPS policy to NEVER refund money or pay any sort of claim. It would not surprise me to see UPS spend $100 to avoid making a $10 refund.

The best way to get at them is this: when you order something from a big mail order retailer, ask for and pay for an alternate shipper and explain to them that UPS has very poor service. This way, when the UPS sales representative visits that company, the shipping manager at that company can say, "Look at all of those packages with Fed Ex labels on them. Those packages there are waiting to go to the post office. And these are waiting for pickup by Air Borne. We love what UPS does for us. You make everything so easy. But our customers tell us that you suck for them." This is how we can make it hurt for UPS and make them reconsider their ways.

I'm working on my strategy Gollnick. Thanks for the hot tip. I don't have much free time to invest in my little project, but every little bit helps. I hope some of you have emailed Mr. Roy. He's definately taking it in the shorts on this one.

hello all,

i work at a local mail boxes etc. a.k.a. ripoff boxes etc. but have many stories about ups. i ship out on average about 20-40 packages a day and most go ups. for the most part they usually arrive without any problems. but when there is damage to a package the claim will almost alway's be denied
frown.gif
ups's usuall response is insufficient packing materials of all the claims i have seen in the last 4-5 months of working here only 2 have actually been paid by ups
frown.gif
. basically they always say that it is the shippers fault for not useing enough packing materials. fed ex airborne are really not that much better at honoring insurance claims but they do have less claims overall from what i have experienced.
if fed ex is an option they are for the most part reliable and stick to the delivery times they promise better than most other companies i have delt with. the usps as stated in a previous post will for the most part get it there it might just take a long time for it to arrive. one package coming to my store in maryland from california via priority mail took over 2 weeks to get here
frown.gif

so they all mess up sometimes. if i had to choose one it would be fed-ex but any over the postal service because any package with other shippers is at least trackable even with there cheapest options
smile.gif
thats just my humble opinion though.
one peice of advice though never ever use an mail boxes etc. store. i work at one and we are the biggest ripoff out there i only tell this to my fellow knife knuts because the money you save going directly to a shipper like ups or fed-ex can be used to buy more knives heheh
smile.gif
every one have a great day and please dont hate me for working at an m.b.e. heheh rofl

I guess it all depends on where you live and to a lesser extent, who your driver is. The regular (as opposed to substitute) drivers I have known have often gone out of their way to make sure that the package is delivered safely. I have never had one left in the rain, if no one is there they have left them around back of the house out of sight or else with neighbors. That's UPS for you. FedEX is just too expensive, the FedEX driver I know doesn't even use it all the time (of course he gets a hefty discount). As for the post office, in the last three months I have had a package lost by them for a week, and recieved a letter a month and a half after the postmark date.

Take time to get to know your driver/clerk, that way they might hook you up or go out of their way to take care of your precious package.

This bites, Max. So much for the customer always being right. I'll e-mail some encouragement like you sez.

I also have never had a problem with UPS. I believe, though, that this is directly related to the fact that our local driver is a life-long resident of this community, just like me. That prolly explains that. I will use FED-EX from now on for 2 reasons:

1> Support for youse guys via Max's idea....

2> Our FED-EX driver is hot HOT HOT!

Max,

It might not make any difference but you might look into filing a formal complaint with the Federal Interstate Commerce Commission or whichever branch of the federal government regulates them. I work for a large utility and I know for a fact that they HATE any complaints filed with regulatory agencies. Many times it will affect the salary review of the particular UPS manager or big wig in that region. In my company they are usually required to keep complaints to zero or some minimum amount or it will hurt their pocketbook.

I was told by the UPS counter person that they don't really like all those small individual orders and only make the real profits on large corporate accounts. That is why they don't open up UPS counters everywhere.

Good luck in your fight.

Food for thought. Thanks Alex. I'm in this for the long haul. UPS will know my name when I'm through.

A few years ago, the Postmaster of New York told us that he wouldn't mind opening up postal service to anyone who wanted to get into the business -- as long as they competed with us fairly, by providing universal delivery at uniform cost ...
