Last Fighter, GB haters beware.

Good looking knife, nice balance handle to blade, and the pin-work fits right in with the use of "natural" bone,

John

Thank guys for all the nice comments, I like just about all handle materials, with the exception of just one or two. I really like ivory,( walrus, elephant, mammoth, hippo, etc.) I'd use more of it if I could, but then again not all knives I make would be a good canidate for ivory either. I think thats where a little GB fits in, but thats just my opinion. I was never a big fan of dyed GB thats why I didn't have wssi dye any when I sent some to him to stabilize, the all natural looks, looks more like marble.

Thanks again for all the nice comments, I was afraid this knife might get a bit shunned because of the GB. ;) I'll let Mr. Ward takes some better photos of it in Little Rock if he has the time, then show the professional version after. :)

Happy New Year everyone,

Bill

Great looking knife Bill. I especially like the damascus and filework. I think stabilized GB is a great material as long as it isn't dyed unnatural colors.

I have to wonder about anyone that would prefer to hold a walrus schlong tightly in his hand whilst sporting a menacing expression as opposed to a chunk of a giraffe leg:eek: Waving a petrified pinniped penis in a threatening manner doesn't really communicate the whole "don't mess with me" thing IMO.:D With that said, I must agree that the cartoon coloring of G bone is what turned most people off. I feel the same way about dyed box elder burl, spalt maple, etc. To me, that kind of handle material is in the same league as Dymondwood. By the way......nice knife.:D

You have to admit, some of those oosics are mighty impressive! LOL

And to think that dyed and jiged cow bone has been the main stay in folders for a VERY long time. And still is. Even on customs. Bose, Ruple, many others. Now I ask you. How is cow leg bone more exotic than Girrafe?
I can look out the back door and see a Lot of Cows! But not a Girrafe in sight!

Its not a "better" material, but at least its traditional. Funny, I have never seen a Lovett fighter with jigged bone (Or G bone)?

Sorry for the thread drift ;)

Joe hit the nail on the head. (Or the walrus in the groin. ) Why would anyone choose oosic when there's all these shin bones laying around, waiting to be picked up off the ground?, in Africa.

Actually the natural range of the giraffe is a tiny area of the continent, saw this on a map last week. Just a spot- really.
As for the knife, i like it better too - natural undyed. I must say, the overall composition (profile) reminds me of a production shaped blade. Very straight edge, back, etc... intentional?

One of the nicest looking hunters i've seen was made by Bill - w/ stag and a buttcap. very memorable, but not so fancy either!

Damascus and giraffe bone. Sonny and Cher.
David

David, you are dating yourself. ;) :)

Trivia question; How many handle slabs can you get from the average Giraffe?
Just kidding. Thought I would try to throw this off topic just a little more. ;)
