Last knife purchase of 2017

Well, I haven't bought myself a knife in a little while and this thread actually made me realize that fact.

The wife really hit it out the park with the past few gifts she got me, and the last knife I purchased was a gift for my best man, and I really didn't want to end my '17 acquisitions on the "high" note of the vintage deer leg knife my brother gifted me, so I just now decided to make myself a last hour of the year purchase.

Could use a new half decent tacklebox knife, as well as a pruner so.... these two are my last purchased this year.....

Appears my last purchase in 2017 will be a La Griffe, provided I shy away from the exchange next couple days.

Edit: I forgot I have a used Bulldog on the way that I bought after the La Griffe. Arrived in Denver last night, might get it today.

The La Griffe is such an amazing knife. Which version are you getting? I put the sheath on a static cord and the little curve of the handle sits over the waistband and keeps the knife from falling down your pants. It is a surprisingly good knife for little edc tasks. Some days I just carry the La Griffe and it is all the knife I need. Though usually if I am going to carry one small ring knife I go with the Brous Silent Soldier as it is still a great self defense knife (works even better than La Griffe in punch dagger grip) but also is superior for utility tasks.

Just made a last payment for my completed Dozier Folder. Ships out Weds. I cant wait. Its been a long 107 days so far. I will add a pic when she arrives.

Purchased 10/30 from KA

Kind of a weird number of knives in this run, guessing they're left over from previous runs.

I love the copper bolsters! Those knives will look great after they get a little bit of patina.

Have not figured out a preferred way to carry it yet. I'm not much on neck carry, especially in winter, too many layers to dig through to find it. I am finding it sits very nicely in a jeans coin pocket with the handle just sticking out. I also found and old g clip, when I find the screws for it I might attach one and see how that works. Great little knife, amazing package opener! I got a coated one, now I want a satin.

I rarely to never carry them as neck knives. I do keep them on ball chains though and just use the ball chain as a static cord. That way on the off chance I do feel like neck carrying them I can just unloop the chain from my belt loop and throw it on. They do fit good in the little coin pocket. I also wear them just tucked in my waistband. So far they never have fallen down my pants and even if they did the static cord would prevent them from getting lost.

Even if you are carrying them in your coin pocket I still recommend putting the sheath on a static cord. (I like to have my sheath connected to me somehow) If you don’t know what a static cord is you should look it up. Also if you like the La Griffe then I can’t recommend a Silent Soldier Neck Knife to you enough.

I bought a three pack of Gossman blades yesterday afternoon. I sure didn't need them, didn't really want them, but I felt they needed a good home and a fellow member made me an offer that I couldn't refuse!

I will not be buying any new blades in 2018 that I can think of. For once, I don't have any blades or wants that I can think of (except a Spyderco Delica 4 in blaze orange)!

This my last knife purchase for 2017.
From the exchange. Will have to wait(impatiently)a few days before I will have it.
Bought it in 2017 , will receive it a few days into 2018.
Not my picture but it is the knife I bought.

I thought the same thing. Any fly-by-night company I would've passed, but being rough riders, and knowing RR makes a decent cheap slipjoint, I couldn't pass for two more beaters before years end, both with specific functional purposes that would come in handy.

I love the fact also, that in place of the RR shield on the fishing knife, the copper version actually has a little hook sharpener in place.... it's the little things that make me smile.

I ended up with 3 “last ones.” My last one kept getting undone by the next one.

Lapedog Lapedog I’ve almost picked up a La Griffe twice but still haven’t. Good to see you’re enjoying yours. Have you ever tried the Swicks? The La Griffe looks a little more compact. Curious which you prefer if so.

I have wanted to try a swick but never got ahold of one. There is also the older Spyderco SPOT but I didn’t love the blade shape. (Those little tight recurves are a pain in the butt to sharpen.) There is also the Emerson La Griffe which has a little hawkbill. Then there are rarer ones like the Ban Tang Pikal La Griffe (I lust for this).

I think pretty much any of them including the Swicks would make excellent last ditch or close in defense knives. The reason I prefer the Perrins to the Emerson model is because the straighter edge lets me use it as a punch dagger. The handle on the Swicks look like they wouldn’t be as good for the punch dagger grips.

Ok here’s the break down. If I am carrying one as a little backup SD knife along with another bigger knife. (Usually a folder) then the Perrins are extremely light and thin. Even lighter and thinner is Le Shark which is even lower profile. (Also for my hand the Le Shark fits perfect for lunch dagger grip)

If I am going to be carrying just one of these little neck knives as my only knife I usually prefer the Brous Silent Soldiers because they are thicker and more capable as utility knives. I actually don’t wear them as neck knives almost ever. Usually i put them in my coin pocket or in my waistband. The ball chain doubles great as a static cord. I wear the Le Shark as a neckknife sometimes if I am going to the gym or have no pockets, or no belt loops.

Edit to add pics: Note, hand is held partially open so you can see how the handle supports against my palm. (Sorry about the ugly cuticles, dry winter)

Le Shark. First picture shows it works best for my hand if you make sure to hook the butt around your middle finger. Easy to do if you practice drawing it this way. Still in a rush I would probably draw in standard grip. The butt supports against the meat of my palm connected to my thumb.

For me if you don’t hook the butt around your middle finger it can stull be used, but it is less comfortable and presents at a weirder angle. This is shown in this last pic. (Check that friggin’ auto hamon! Captured great here)
