Little does it know I'm going to paint it green. :foot:

I'm just not the type to take pictures of every step...like before I open the boxes.

Or the peek inside.

The parts on a table.

And then with each of the tooling arms installed.

...and I'm not going to post pictures of it when my MAP arm arrives, too.

:D

I want to see pics when it is green, really nice grinder. I am envious.
PS WHat speed and hp is your motor?
Chris

Hi Chris,

I went with the 1 1/2 hp 1725 rpm motor from Beaumont Metal Works. By sticking with the 3 speed pulleys, I'm able to afford to get more auxiliary items in place, like a plastic curtain and dust collection system so that the dust from my hobby doesn't get all over my wife's exercise equipment. :D

Ahhh....that's just a nice thing to behold. I remember very fondly unpackaging my KMG, and I just relived the feeling in my chest when I saw your pictures. It's a beautiful piece of engineering, and they're built like tanks. I see that they've switched the tooling arm bolt to the right side. On my grinder, it's on the left. I need to pick up another tooling arm or two....

Congratulations and thanks very much for sharing!

Nathan,

It looks like his is on the left in the 2nd picture, so he may have switched it over.

I just got a KMG in late 2009, and mine was on the left - I switched it to the right because it felt more natural during belt changes. All I did was swap the left and pieces of plate forming the arm channel.

See...now I know why they let other people on this board. Just to keep me in check :D. Thanks, Tait. It did take some getting use to, but I had already painted mine up before I thought about the hole location, so I've lived with it. Good idea just swapping the plates.

My dream KMG attachment is on its way, so I thought I'd get the bolt switched out of the way ahead of time. Of course, now that I have, I notice that my tracking wheel needs to sag a bit for the belt to stay centered.

When you painted yours, Nathan, did you have any clearance problems near the tracking adjustment or tension arms hinges? Those seem to be pretty narrow clearances.

Thanks :D

No problems here, but I didn't do a Michelangelo job on it either :D. It was quick and dirty with the spray can. I did take time to tape off the holes, bearings, and wheels. I believe I did spray my tracking adjustment, and I seem to recall needing to work it back and forth several times to get the paint out of the joint.

Joules,

Did you request the platen to have 1 contact wheel instead of the standard aluminum rollers?

Hi Kyle,

I purchased the 2" contact wheel and switched it out for the stock aluminum one. I'm not sure who came up with the idea originally, but it just made perfect sense.
