I have to admit that is one of the only things I would change if I was designing these. I would want the top and bottom to match around so it wouldn't be quite so obvious it come apart. With police officers you don't always HAVE to actually pull the blade out for them to figure out that some canes have sharp pointy things inside....

Even if the brass bolster meshed exactly with the top of the sheath it probably wouldn't fool police, but it might keep nosy civilians from seeing something to complain about. I think it would be an easy fix: Wrap a nice piece of brass around the existing bolster that's a little wider (looks like about 1/16" in the third photo), so it closes the gap. If, like me, you're not a metalworkers, rough up the facing brass sides and epoxy the new piece in place.
