Well I finally did it, I am now a paying member of the Bladeforums. I have been tinkering with making knives and getting my shop setup for years. Now I am very close to having the shop ready to go and decided I would join as a "Knifemaker" to motivate myself to get the last few things done. I have lurked around this forum for a long time reading and dreaming of things I would like to do and enjoying looking at other people's projects.

I'll try and give a brief and hopefully not too boring bio: I was born and raised on a farm in South Texas. Learned a lot of useful skills since it was just me and dad taking care of the place. Went to trade school after high school and became a certified machinist. Worked in a job shop for a few years and then decided to go to college. I attended Texas Tech University and graduated with an Industrial Engineering degree. Since then I have worked in the semiconductor industry the last 20 years. I am married and have two kids, son 15 and daughter 12. I enjoy making knives, selfbows, hunting with my son, and alot of other outdoor activities.

I will try and post some pictures of my shop in the next couple of weeks. I have gathered and made quite a few things over the years. I have a KMG grinder, drill presses, wood band saw, cutting torch, welder, heat treat oven, and have just finished a Don Fogg style forge. I've probably made about 8 knives over about as many years, I will try and attach pics of my last two. I think the pictures are there so a brief description would be an O1 intergal with desert ironwood handle and a clip point hunter I made for my son out of damascus (L6 and O1) I made years ago under the instructions of MS Chris Marks. The sheath is my first attempt at leather work.

Regards,

Thanks everyone for the king comments. I forgot to mention I moved from Texas about 2.5 years ago and know live in Park City, Utah. I have recently finished a forge as I mentioned above, but have only run it for a few minutes to cure the lining. Does anyone have experience with running a blown burner propane forge at high altitude? Is there any performance loss compared to lower altitude? I live at 6500ft and I did not notice the forge struggling, but only ran it about 10 minutes. I did heat up a piece of half inch rebar very quicly once the forge got up to temp. I plan on installing a TC in my forge soon just so I can have better control/understanding of what's going on.
