Just recently got a 4Max Scout and #0ly $ht this thing is amazing.

I’m a bit upset I’ve missed the chance to get the CPM20cv at a decent price but this AUS10 is no slouch!

I’ve been carrying an old school 4” clip point voyager in Vg10 for years and this has just unpocketed the reigning champ. Hats off to Cold Steel for this one. And razor sharp out of the box, how ive missed that little touch with all these high end folders over the years. I can’t wait to put it through its paces when the occasion comes up.

I know I’m preaching to the choir, but this carries like a knife half it’s size and fits my mitts perfectly. Now I need a couple more for go-bags, kids, Monday’s, weekends ......

Tried to upload a photo, but I need to figure out how to make it smaller

If you are doing it on a computer, just right click and pick edit, you can resize it then.

I told you they were Awesome folders. I got one for me and just received another for my son's birthday in a couple weeks. I'm ordering another for son in law today. Hmm! I need two really you know what they say two is one.

Glad to hear you like it so much though, but I had a feeling once you handled one you'd be hooked. Try out the AD10 also a little smaller but slicker than the 4max and stout as hell with about a 4" blade as well.

Congrats on the Scout, Gravelface!

Now that you found out about the 4max you need to check out a AD10 while you can still find them at a good price. The one I have is so slick in it's operation that it's hard to believe it has a triad lock. Press the button and look out blade swings down and a little flick and it flies open. It's got some nice g10 for handle slabs also. Well then there's the S35vn Large Espada.....:D

Is the Elite in CPM-S35VN vs the American and Italian in 20CV worth getting over the Scout with AUS10? Real world use, not recaps or “opinions” based off what was read somewhere.

From what I've seen I'm not so sure. I think if it were me I'd go with an American or Italian version. Or just get more Scouts and beat the crap out of one and see what you think. I've seen cold steels aus10 take a beating and keep going where the s35 seemed to be getting a little duller than the aus10. I'm not sure if they had the same edge to begin with, but it made me wonder as both were new knives I believe.

If you look into the knife the lockbar spring on the scout and the newest 4max are the same size. They are smaller in width than the American or Italian versions which fill the entire void in the bottom. The scout and elite have a size that is just about half it's width. Don't get me wrong the scout is a fine knife or I wouldn't have purchased 3 already and I'm sure the elite is as well, heck I wouldn't mind having one.

BUT! Before I get an elite if/when I decide to one day, I'm definitely getting a nice Italian version first with the 20cv steel and the thick spring since I already have an American model. So there is some food for thought. Check out Jimislash on the tube he has about 20 of them in all flavors and does reviews on them as well as problems he's had with the different models. Well have a good one be talk'in to ya, Hope this helps a little.

As always, your input is great! I’m certainly going to track a couple more Scouts down. For the money, right off hand think of another folder than can compete in $100 range.

It seems the 20cv version might take its place with the Hamamoto I’ve always wanted.

but now I’m gonna watch this Jimislash and drool over his collection!!!!

Aaarrgghhh. My life is in shambles. I cannot continue to go on

Demko has a 5 Max!?!?!!?!!!!!!!!

I’m not sure what I’m going to do now.

Got an AD10 on the way....

Hello, my name is Jason and I’m becoming addicted to Demko Cold Steel knives!

Ha! Welcome to the club! I had to go to Demko's site to view his new 5-Max. It's been discussed for years, but that picture in his Gallery is the first one I've seen.

Thanks, Jason, now I've got a new knife to buy, too!

P.S. - Sorry, can't help with your 4-Max Elite question. In my opinion, they've priced that one too high. I won't pay made-in-America prices for Taiwanese knives, no matter how well constructed they might be.

Ok, just made an offer on an AD 10 (thanks to d762nato, ya bastid ;). Are there clones / fakes of these out in the wild and any particular telltales to ID them?

This must be pay back, Thanks :p I didn't know Demko had a 5Max now I'm going to get in trouble I can't stop ordering knives. I'm not sure if its just waiting to get packages or the knives...both I think.
I do believe there are fakes out there and a few off centered blades I've seen for sale so be careful and ask questions.

Yes quite impressive I wonder if the stop pin is even larger. I've been wanting to check out an XL Espada also. That knife is definitely a monster but not sure how practical it would be. Just so many dang knives to check out.:D

I always thought that the Al Mar SERE was the pinnacle for a martial-folder, when it was introduced. The Cold Steel Maxes, have changed my thinking. They are now the future for a massive folding, war-blade. For combat, survival, and general-utility they can't be beat.

As you can observe; I dig big tactical-folders:

It would be fascinating to see a 5 Max Scout from Cold Steel, even at twice-the-price of a 'normal Scout'.
