hey folks..

we have another weekend long, 3-D traditional archery shoot coming up in a few weeks.. i was checking my arrows and they were looking pretty ragged, so i figgured i was about due to make another dozen..

i have slowly but surely been working on these for the past week or so.. we have been super busy lately and i have just been squeezing in an hour here and there at my workbench... it is a long tedious process.. i ran into a few hicups along the way (think, don't rush), but they turned out okay.. i finally just put on the last fletch last night..

here you go.. they are Port orford cedar shafts, spined @ 45-50#, they're cut to 29 in. long to accomidate my draw length.. i stained them with a light honey maple wood stain, crested them and them gave them 4 coats/dips in laquer.. hence the shinyness...:D

in process.. before nocks, laquer, points and fletches.. i wish i would have taken more pics while i was working..

cheers.. Mike

Wow, that is really cool! Traditional archery is something I would love to get into someday ...maybe when my sons are older. :D

thanks for the kind words folks..

Raining-- it is a great family sport to get into...:) both of my boys have been shooting since they were 4 years old.. my oldest is 12 and the little dude will be 7 in a few weeks... my wife and father in law shoot as well..:D

the misses rocks..

awesome, what equipment and how much money do you need to get into making traditional arrows? I have a Howard Hill and a Martin Hunter in the closet... using Easton Gamegetters just doesn't do them justice

like most crafts, it'll take a little $$ to buy supplies and get started... but they're are ways of doing it on the chaeper side... shooting aluminums out of trad. bows just doesn't seem right..

i taught my father in law (who is a perfectionist) how to make arrows, and now his stuff blows mine away...:o here is a tutorial he did a while back.. seeing how he and I share our supplies, it is pretty much exactly how i make arrows... we have upgraded our cresting machine and now it is much better and more effecient..

Nice arrows Mike! I need to make some myself. Actually, got the shafts sitting here for about 2 weeks.

What shoot are you talking about? When is it?

Mike beautifull arrows! I use to be into traditional archery but too many hours working and not enough practice. I went back to the compound.still fletch and cut all my own arrows even though they are carbon.

Good stuff Mike!

Hope you can make it this May, we can use some more archers!:D

i would love to man, but am not sure if i can work it out.. funds are a little tight these days.. i will try and look into again..:)

great arrows mike. I like the orange and grey combo. I hope I can make the shoot.

i hope so Darren.. that will be your last Cali. shoot before you become a trad. archer of Oregon...:(

Uh, I totally forgot about it. I should be able to cancel/postpone my plans for that weekend though. I really need to go, I haven't shot in months!

Nicely done. I haven't shot traditional for years. I am a trader... I have a Bowtech. One thing I can say, shooting nowdays doesn't require the skill it does with traditional archery.

Mike, those are nice, very nice. That's really good work, and it isn't as easy as some may think. I tried making my own arrows once. :o They flew straight, but were a little too long and heavy. They seem to fly in slow motion, and then went almost completely through the traditional target and the folding chair we were using instead of a tripod. They made for an interesting novelty, but no good for real shooting.

Those look great Mike....You make nice arrows. The ones I scored off ya awhile back were almost too nice to shoot!
