Latest one...Utility/filet/you decide!

Here is the hidden pin picture:

Shotgunner, the G10 was sanded to 1000 grit and then buffed with pink scratch less.
5/32" at the spine (at the base only, it starts tapering almost immediately) and around 30 thou at the edge. This will see cod and other big boned fish so I wanted to leave some meat in there. Still thin compared to the crowbars I've seen them using. ;)

Thanks again for the good words guys!

Patrice, that is one seriously classy filet knife! Nice...

I like the hidden pin, I'd like to try that one day.

I think "Filletility" flows better off the tongue.....

Do you make men's knives, too?

Ha!... you know I just bustin' your cheese curds, mon amis.
Rick

I like that a lot! You have a great eye for lines Patrice.

Yeah, I like it. A nice beefy knife for big beefy fish. Thanks Patrice, thanks for the look and the knowledge on polishing G10.

Fiddleback, that's one of the best compliment you can get I think. Good lines are the basis of it all.

Rick, that's sounds a lot like Fertility. Now you've done it, I am thinking about building a knife around that name. Could be interesting. ;)
If I was the kind to bite on that knives for men crack I'd say something like “Why? Does yo mama need a knife?”. Good thing I am not. :p;)

Thanks again for the encouragement guys.

All right Patrice, you're gettin' down with the rabbet-tang construction. I like that style, use it a lot.

And nice with the "yo mama" joke. Sure you're not a Yank?

Pat,

Another GREAT knife buddy ! Your knocking'em out these days.

The guard looks just a touch bulky in relation to the size and design of the rest of the knife IMHO. I think making the radius on the back of the finger guard come further forward and higher up the sides of the handle would help it to flow with the sleekness and overall elegance of this knife a little better.

To my eye your makers mark sort of overwhealms the ricasso a little. This is something I've taken notice of on my MM and even though I've got 3 sizes to choose from I still don't like it and plan to change to more subtle design.

I have NOT worked much stainless either so I haven't done alot of cutting/testing edge geometry with stainless but would desribe .030 as FAT .020 as a place to begin .015 as good for most jobs .010 as thin and sub .010 as kitchen/razor geometry. I would think your steel would support an edge between .015 and .020 with no problem but be a much more efficient cutter.

Just a couple points to ponder buddy. You've got a real eye for design IMHO

Take care -Josh

That's a good point about the guard. Guess since this was more of a working knife than a show piece, I did not pay enough attention to the design. I'll also look into something for the maker's mark. It does fill the ricasso a little too much. Thanks for feedback Josh, that's why I love this place.

About the thickness, I agree that we often make it too thick. But in this case, I really think that this is a better thickness. When they fillet, they do a pretty rough job so it works fine for that. And they might be cutting up a 400 lbs thresher shark with the same knife so I definatly want something beefy for that.

Salem, I am not a Yank but I play one on the Internet. ;)

Patrice, what is the color of the G10? Is it simply red, or sunburst red or something like that? The more I look at it the more I like it!!!

It does look like it has a reddish hue. Sadly it is simply orange. The new camera looks like it's making things a little colder.

I wish I had more to show but all I have is a pic of the knife and sheath as promised.

I gave the knife to the little boy Alex (well ok not so little anymore, he is almost as big as me:eek:). He was tickled pink and I have not seen him yet without the knife on his belt. I put the knife on my website and told him to come up with a name for it. I thought he'd like that. He came up with Alex's Fisherman Special which I think has a nice ring to it. I knew he would appreciate the knife, that's why I made it for him and because he is a good boy. No surprise as his parents are the nicest folks. Anywho, as you can see, sheathmaking is not my forte. And I am not sure it will ever be. I don't hate it per say but I have no particular interest in it except as it is essential for some knives.

Thanks for looking

The sheath looks fine, Patrice. It definitely suits the knife. Nice story with the youngun and all. He's a lucky dude with a blade like that.

Thanks for the good words guys. I really wanted to do a few things more with this one if I had the time. (spacer and small carving on the handle) Oh well...
