Here is the latest scoop on the limited edition ESM-1 Commander:

Emerson has not given Triple Aught Design a price yet.

It will be 6-8 weeks untill they are in stock.
_________________________________________________________________

This is email information I got from Emerson Knives:

The first 200 are exclusive through Triple Aught Design. They have ordered 100 black on black and 100 hard chromed (satin) with green handles. They will have special logos and be serialized.

I would suspect that we will do a satin/black version at some point but I have no idea when.

This will be exclusively done with Triple Aught for the time being. We have a good relationship with them and we trust they will do a fine job representing us.

MY Black on Black ES1-M is on order with the shoulder rig! Along with the Custom 6.5 Strider, Brend hatchet, Strider Tka and other items, I might as well give TAD the keys to my cars, house and account numbers! Seriously, TAD puts together a good product with the tactical knife makers and are great to deal with. -Dick

I hate to keep beating this horse, but... I spoke to Ernest and this knife will not be called the ES1-M or anything like it. That name is reserved for the custom model.

If it's not called the ES1-M, then what will it be called? From the EK and TAD descriptions it sure sounds like a ES1-M.

Hell annonce the name at a later time. With the sole exception of the CQC7, custom models have their own name designation and do not become production models. With an extremely active secondary market, transfering a custom name onto a production model totally confuses the picture. The Commander was the production version of the ES1-M. The ES1-M was made for the Seals, the Commander was made for the civilian market. With the exception of the handground, pre-production Commanders ( erroneously but affectionately known as the CM-1s ) there are only production Commanders. The Commander was downsized from the ES1-M and the new knife may be of a similar size, but the designer names the knife and the new one isn't going to be the ES1-M.

The "ES1-M" project we are presenting with Emerson Knives, Inc. will have a different name once Ernie, Derek, and crew decide what it is. Until then "ES1-M" is just a working name. For those of you who are squirming in their seats at the current nomanclature, I suggest that you call it for now, the "B-Comm", or "Full-Commander", "Brigadier", etc., if it makes you fell better. ;-)

We find it more important right now to insure that this project goes smoothly to bring to market.

Bladelaw, excellent description. My thoughts exactly.

But let's not forget the ES1-C. The original Proto for the Civilian version of the ES1-M. Basically, it's the same exact knife (size and all) as the ES1-M, except that it doesn't have a wave.

Is EK just testing the waters to see if their is a big market for the ES1-M by making a small exclusive batch?

Hey, I think Brigadier is a GREAT name for an Emerson Knife!!!! What an idea!! ;) If it was named that, it would match my carry gun.

Whatever they decide to name it, it's still gonna be a ES1-M. And thats what I'm still gonna call it. Anyone know when the full production is gonna kick in???? I'd like a couple to take in case we go on vacation in Afganistan. :D

How many of you guys are going to buy the OD green handled ES1-M? I think they should have made a black handled model with a satin blade.

I should know better than to argue with anonymous people but some of these replies are great. NIB doesn't care what the designer, the manufaturer and the distributor say, he knows what the knife is and what it should be called. Rogue Spear, as usual, goes his own way. Don't confuse him with the facts once he's formed an opinion. Too bad. This forum used to be a bunch of like-minded guys who had a common interest and were willing to learn from each other.

RS: I'm a pretty loyal Commander collector, so I've reserved one of each. You could always swap scales and have a black handle/satin version.

Swapping handles would be very expensive since you have to buy 2. I am glad to hear that EK is offering bigger folders. This is great news.

BLADELAW, this forum would be better with out your sarcastic comments.

Rogue_Spear. Thanks for the laugh. You've spent a great deal of time in the past bad-mouthing Emerson knives. You've bad-mouthed the prices paid for Emerson customs and if I remember correctly you were invited not to participate on this forum in the past. Now your back offering opinions on new Emerson knives and suggesting this forum would be better off without me. Too funny!

BLADELAW, I did something about the problems. I bitched to EK. If I find a problem I let the manufacturer know about it so they can improve their products. I bought a sifu with a lock problem and I let Rekat know about it. Yes I will point out QC problems.
