Lawn Mowers

I was going to suggest this

but it appears not to be available in the US. Its a hover mower (Used to be popular in the UK, I havent been there for a decade so I dont know about now)

The advantage is that it cuts and hovers so it feels like it weighs nothing. If you are good at keeping up with growth they will chew up the grass so small that you dont need to collect it, just let it fall back onto the lawn. The downside is if you have stone, concrete or other types of borders that need to be kept clean as they will throw some cuttings out over a couple of meters diameter.

Temper, that wouldn't stand a chance here! Geno and his buddies would have that thing flying and hovering over somebodies pond I guarantee. What a cool idea though. Yep I hate baggers too and don't want one on a mower although the clean up is so nice looking. Can't have it all I'm sure.

Hover mowers are prettty useless on a slope. If your lawn is flat, fine, but it can move equally easily in any direction so on a slope it wants to slide downhill no matter how you aim it.

The hover looks sooooo cool. :D Tell me more about it. Does it hover like a spaceship? :D Are there little space aliens inside that fly it? :D Is it easier to push than a mower with big wheels in the back? How do you control how high it hovers?

I like the excerise too and the tan but it's that darn highway grass that is so aggrivating. Cut some grass in the back, now to start the side of the yard and the rope just pulled out. AAARRRGGGHHH. I'm going to see what Lowes has. Thanks all for your info. This is the Deliverance Movie county...to put sheep on this land? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

The rope on mine is a real PITA. I pull and pull and the stupid thing won't turn on. To make matters worse, every once in awhile the rope locks out as your using all of your might to pull it so it pulls your shoulder out. You feel pretty stupid stomping on a lawn mower but I've done it before. You don't want to kick it because it might hurt the toes. :D

Hey Jsmatos, well I finally got one running again and it's the push mower, Thanks to Geno and buying a case of beer to get the job done it runs again. I've got chicken and dumplings cooking now so I'll have some free time this evening when temperatures cool off. Go and sneak an ice cream bar somewhere, wish you were here. :)

The same blade that cuts the grass also acts as a fan to make it hover. It's effortless to push on level ground, frictionless, but there's nothing to keep it from sliding down a slope. I can think of several ways you could control the height, not sure which they actually use....

That's not right! Better set that one on fire again and this time burn it up properly so he'll have to fix the riding mower.

Hey Hey Hey!!! I had 3 nice guys bring over a self propelled push mower tonight...free and came from a divorce sale!!! Tried to pay them and all they said was just use it and enjoy it. Good friends, huh? :D

In your part of the country you should be able to find a Yazoo mower. They are built to cut the thick heavy grass along the Gulf Coast and are built like a rock. I have had one for years and each time it falters and I hope I finally get to get me a new mower it ends up being something simple to fix so its still with me. Its getting old though sometimes I have to pull the rope twice now instead of the once I have become accustom to. It is probably not the best mower for my hilly yard in WV but the stupid thing just will not break. The extent of the maintenance for the past 13 years or so is 1 spark plug, 1 piece of fuel line, several oil changes and air filter cleanings along with lots of fuel to keep it running. The idiots down in Jackson MS who make this things use heavy steel to make the decks on them so you can’t even have any luck tearing them up bouncing over rocks or stumps or anything. The blades on the heavy duty ones look like they came off of a tractor and will cut anything you push them over. If I ever do manage to wear out this little one I am still stuck with the heavy duty commercial one that I have had in storage for 5 years or so, which since its built like a Russian tank will probably be a millstone around my neck forever.
