lawnmower blade steel is not a mystery steel

This thread has a surprisingly great end. Happy to see it work out good for you Crawdaddy

If it matters at all, I really liked your designs and wouldn't have really cared what sort of steel they manufactured from as just the aesthetics of them were great. And let's face it, more then half the users amoung this site don't need super steels for slicing veggies, cleaning finger nails and keeping a knife drawer warm. Do what you need to do, as you do and enjoy it. I'm sure anyone who purchased a blade from you is more then happy with it.

Just my 3cents.

Troll much?

Mower blades suck for knives. In fact, most mower blades suck as mower blades.

Congrats, you've just taken a stand on the most widely-visited knife forum on the planet, and put yourself out there as using substandard materials on purpose.

Ok, I think we have beat the lawn mower issue to death for this thread. Learning is what Shop Talk is all about. We all learn at different rates and different ways. Crawdaddy learned something and I hope others either learned along with him or will learn by him. Time to get on with the next knives, now.

Take a look at Crawdaddy's new knife in his latest thread. It is a nice simple hunter from a file.

Crawdaddy, I am serious about the steel, I'll send you a PM.

It has been interesting watching this discussion unfold. It occurred to me to wonder if an improved search capability might have been able to avoid this problem. Yes, I know... there is a way to use Google to get the answers you seek... but it's not the intuitive way newer users engage in search, and the native search engine for this message board leaves much to be desired.

Of course, any search engine is only as good as the queries it must process. That said, I think a better search capability would stop a lot of these cyclic discussions.

I run a football forum that gets about 15 million hits a year, even with better search engine you get the same topics that pop up. Even with stickies. A. People are too impatient to look at stickies. B. Sometimes stickies just have too much info in them and it makes it hard to find the info in the stickies. C. People just have a tendency to post a question even if they read it in a sticky as needing some sort of verification that they read the info properly.

I agree with this 100%

So, since I am in need of a new mower blade, what steel would you recommend?

I honestly think a lot of the repeat questions are simply the new guys wanting to start a dialogue with the experienced members, This is a message board after all, And because this is knife making 101 there really aren't any new questions to be asked, which leads to the guys that have been here for 10 years to get a little short with the newb questions they have answered a thousand times before.

Sounds like an infinite loop ;0)

I agree. This forum is amazing and the information is truly special. I've been on forums (actively) for over 15 years and I've *never* found a more giving group of people. The exchange of ideas and information that has been kept to oneself in other places keeps me coming back here.

It's not a problem in this particular forum, but in others, it gets old watching the regulars jump on someone for asking a question. It's a discussion forum for chrimany sake, some people forget that once all of their questions have been answered.

I have no comment on the op.

I will just point out that the Google search engine is one of the first things in the stickys.

Fellows - Lets not derail the thread with outside humor about making lawn mower blades. Crawdaddy has said he doesn't appreciate humor, so lets all respect his temperament. Doing otherwise is provocation, and that isn't how we should treat each other, is it?

Crawdaddy, If you have got all the response and info you wanted from this thread, you can close it, or I will do it for you.
