Layers.... I know there is a new knife under here somewhere!!

Great knife! Congrats
I have an old pivot one.

However i continue to dislike new boxes

Nice! I was going to get one this weekend but saw a custom southard just had to get it.

Thanks HJ!! cant blame you there.. I have been tempted by a few customs myself.. but I keep telling myself no!!:D
All the best, Dave

Thanks brother!! My favorite is still the "Original" version with the Old style pivot and gimping and I have two of those in the Star-Tac.. but I think the "New" Style pivot looks good on the Star-Tac.. not so much on the regular Zaan. But of course that is just personal preference.
All the best, Dave

Those are the best looking Zaans. Very nice addition.

Thank you Dino!! I still prefer the old gals though!!:D You know the song "Older women make beautiful lovers" Same goes for Chris Reeve Knives!! If you only knew how much I wished that Small 21 w/ Spirograph Blade was just a couple of years older.. it would have been over last night!!
All the best, Dave

I don't know much about the various Zaans but the Star-Tac versions are lookers. Could you post some side-by-sides of the old and new? Just for those of us not as versed in all that is Zaan. Take care.

WOW Dave, great pick up. I would never have guessed it my friend. I know how much you admire the classics.

It is a very nice addition to your already impressive collection...:D.

Take care

Thank you Andre!! I still love the old stuff but you know how I am with my favorite the Zaan!! I didn't have a late features Star-Tac and to be honest (which is of course is the best policy) I was able to use Amx points with the retailer so it was easy to justify the purchase (in my mind anyway) not real money right?:D
All the best, Dave

I agree, if Amex is buying you an awesome Zaan. Let them...;)

In all honesty, I prefer the new pivot on the WC Star tac. I think it doesn't detract from the clean lines of the starburst grip. The old pivot looks good on the Umnuum, but I would choose new pivot on the WC.

I think you are right Cody. If you put a Star-Tac with the old style pivot next to the Star-Tac with the new style pivot you are able to appreciate the Starburst design on the handles more. I dont like the new piviot on the Orignal Umnumzaan but on the Star-Tac it looks good! I know I am probably not explaining it very well but it is as if the old style piviot which in my humble opinion is the... center of attention on the orignal design becomes the Elephant in the room on the Star-Tac. So when you replace it with the new pivot on the Star-Tac the entire focus is changed. So, yea I concur!
All the best, Dave
I still dont care for the new package though.

Very nice choice Dave ;). And to think you actually purchased a brand new one from a retailer, who would have thunk it...

I agree with you brother, I like the old pivot on the Umnumzaan but like the new pivot on the Star-Tac just so it draws your attention to the Wilson starburst pattern. I also enjoy your comparison pictures of the different models of the Zaan.

Now the question is... Since this is a modern design knife that you could replace at any time if needed, is it going to take up space in the pocket or the safe?

Congratulations Zaan Man!

Well Pilgrim I'll tell ya.. I just don't have the need to carry a knife. I carried a small regular for a while but sold it to get another... and haven't really carried one since. I'm an old grocery guy and find that unless I'm slicing a steak an old school case cutter pretty much handles all my cutting needs. I do keep an old Camillus U.S. Army issue pocket knife and a Leatherman Wave in my brief case if that counts. :D So sadly unless I trade it or sell it for something else it will remain a Safe Queen.
All the best, Dave
