Laying on the side of the road...

Well, Don't mean to bust a bubble, but have you thought of the mailman(mailperson) may have dropped it. You might make some postal points if you check.....they aren't allowed to have a pocketknife so be descreet. But they are allowed to have a box cutter. Go figure. I give mine a pocketknife every Christmas and wrap it up with piece of ribbon in paper. Then he can take it home to open, not knowing whats inside...thats the story anyway......

Case XX USA on the main blade it is pretty pitted the smaller blade appears to be stainless it is not deteriorated at all SR5220 is on the blade, the 5 could be a 6....also looks like someone has took sandpaper to the whole knife....love little projects like this, may even carry the little bugger when I get it fixed up

That 'SR6220' mark likely indicates 'Smooth Red' bone, or perhaps 'Smooth Rose' bone. Here's a pic from the web of a similar model (1980 vintage, with 10 dots and the so-called 'lightning S' in the CASE mark):

SSK-2690-Case-Smooth-Red-Peanut.jpg

The 1980 thru '89 versions had the 'lightning S' in the 'CASE' mark, as well as 1 thru 10 'dots', depending on the year. 10 dots in 1980, then one less dot for each subsequent year, ending with 1 dot in 1989. Earlier versions used a more standard 'S', also with the same dot dating system on the '70 thru '79 versions, and no dots on 1965 thru '69 models. Depending upon whether yours has dots (or none) and the standard or 'lightning' S, it might be anything from 1965 thru 1989 vintage. The 'SR' (smooth red bone) pattern stamp probably narrows it even further.

Edit:
As is obvious in the pics, the 'smooth red' bone is more similar in appearance to Case's so-called 'Appaloosa Bone' knives, but with some reddish accents. Most of the references I'm seeing to the specific 'SR6220' pattern, are in the 1978 through 1983 range.

You're very welcome. :) If 9 dots and the 'lightning S', looks like a 1981 model.

Sad, a lost little peanut. The owner maybe didn't care enough to be careful with it. Maybe it was karma that it was lost on the doorstep of a knife knut. A knife knut that would appreciate a lost little Case.

Sometimes the universe is weird like that.

Carl.

Looks like the OP is a Case Worker.:p:rolleyes::D

Check with the mail person, and if not, enjoy it! I have found a couple of knives in my travels. It is always serendipity I say.

I was down the beach and put it aside for a second -a giant albatross swooped down and pecked it up with its mighty beak...eerrr then it flew off and i never saw it again . that was about a month ago . be a sport and pop it in the mail for me wouldya. cheers.

Not the universe Carl. I'm pretty sure that was a gift from The Great Peanut. Each year, the Great Peanut rises out of the peanut patch that he thinks is the most sincere. I waited in mine sure as could be that there was not a sign of hypocrisy. Nothing but sincerity as far as the eye can see.

Everyone says the Great Peanut is a fake but I believe.

Congrats Combatjiujitsu. Your Peanut Patch was obviously more sincere.;)

Makes me think of an episode of "Cops" with the evidence going out the car window...

Nice find.
