Layoff at Case.

I just saw the post over on the general forums. I felt a little sick at the thought, so I guess I'll be buying a new Case or three even though I downsized a few years ago. Maybe everyone should do thier Christmas shopping early to help out.
 
That is just a real shame. I am sorry to hear it. Hopefully those people will be able to land on their feet, and the company will be able to stay in the US.
 
Well, I'm very sad, but not surprised. :( I'm hoping and praying that we can all get back on our feet financially. I'll be buying a Case or two this Friday, for sure.

It is sad, but in all honesty, I know of few businesses that are not having to do the same thing. Maybe doing is the more proper term, since cutting resources is the fastest (sometimes not the best) answer to staying afloat.

The only thing we can do right now is buy more knives if we can afford it. ;).

I actually just picked up the CV swayback jack this morning since so many of the folks here have been raving about it. First new regular issue (Non Tony Collab) that I have purchased by Case in years.

Like most folks, I've gotten so use to hearing about layoffs and plant closings it doesn't surprise me anymore.

I wish all the employees and Case the best. Hopefully they can weather the storm and come back strong again.
 
That's a real shame. I was similarly affected in my previous job because of the same reasons. This might hasten the purchase of a knife or two. I also pulled the trigger on a Swayback Jack yesterday, but I'm not entirely sure I liked the jigged blue bone, and it didn't have a secondary pen blade. Full MSRP didn't really help its case, either, but I at least did get to handle it. Very nice knife.

I really hate to hear this. It's not because of me though. I just started collecting case knives. I have bought 11 new case knives in the last few weeks. Although I will use this as an excuse to buy a few more. Fun and Affordable. I really do like them.
 
All I can is what a damn shame. I have just purchased 2 more a few minutes ago from smkw.

Well, the shop I work at is going to be carrying a larger number of Case models this year, so I hope that helps them. We're a small seasonal store, but we really pump the sales out. After hearing the news I plan on pushing them a little harder, too. :)

I'm enough of a Case fan that I have one of the bar stools with their logo on it. :D
 
Considering that Case is the big dog when it comes to traditional knives in this country, one would have to wonder what's going on behind the scenes in the handful of other companies we have come to know and support.

In some situations, the parent company may be able to keep the subsidiary afloat for a while. Others may not be so fortunate depending on circumstances.

Thanks to Jackknife on this post to make us aware of a National/Historical company like Case is having to lay off people. I will buy some Case knives I had been putting off. I will encourage my freinds to buy some Case knives. We do not need another great American knife company to go out of business.

Well Jackknife because of you, I will see you and bump two. Due to your fantastic stories I have a strong desire to get a Peanut. So due this request I ordered a Peanut, Med Trapper both in the new chestnut bone CV and a Finn like Bill the trapper. We grew up with Buck and Schrade and it really hurt to see Schrade go and I do not want to see that with Case or Buck. Thanks.
