LB7 markings question

.....Ebay #180063605746....Yeh..Yeh...I know I paid far too much but I couldn't help myself! I can almost smell snipers hanging out of the trees these days so leave little bear traps for them however I won this one in the bargain.
Referring to ScottK post above, does anyone know who M Trutschel was who did the intricate work on this knife? Cost wise if one was to purchase a Mint LB7 and engage an epert to undertake the custom work and they were to charge by the hour I guess there would not be a lot of change from what I paid.....Now to break it to my missus slow like..no need to get me a Xmas present now dear....She keeps reminding me I have 600 odd knives and only 2 hands..hell I hate women's logic..its...its so logical! Appreciate any info mates. Hoo Roo

For starters, if the work looks as good close up as it does in the pictures, I don't think it's too much money. Good engraving can cost as much as you paid for the knife. If you like the style, you paid a fair price. Your fellow Aussie Oupa's customized knives, run in that ball park, though the style is completely different. Nice present!
Merry Christmas!!

G'Day Waynorth and have a happy and safe Xmas yourself mate. Do you know if Mr. M Trutschel was in any way connected to Schrade as it seems he customised a number of Schrades and am also wondering if he only altered LB 7's. Does anyone have other Trutschel customs? Appreciate any info. Hoo Roo and all the best to all forum member mates from Downunder. Larry 303.

....further to abovepost the reason I ask if he was connected with Schrade is I have Mint 4 pin LB7 #D21250 which has factory inscribed Bolster similar to that inscription on the customised knife. Hoo Roo

Larry, the name isn't one I've run across, but that doesn't mean much. I'd suggest you run it up the flagpole over at the Bernard Levine forum. He, or one of his cohorts there should know most of the custom makers by name if not by the style of there work. Mr. Levine himself has a lot of knowledge about the customizers who worked occasionally with Schrade.

Hi all,

I am collecting Schrade knives in mint collection not only for fun, but as an investment. I just received another LB7 in it's original "hang" pack (blisster pack?). At any rate it is a 3 pin with the serial number AW89718. I now know, thanks to you folks, the relative significance of this number.

This leads to a new question specifically regarding collectible valuation. The brass bolsters are clearly in need of a good polishing just from age and/or environmental exposure. Is the knife IN IT'S CURRENT CONDITION worth more as a true factory sealed mint original, or is the collectible value greater if removed from the pack. cleaned, and retained in the holster along with the papers and together with the blister pack.

This seems like it could be a bit of a thorny issue, and I'd value some input. As an aside, the pack still has the retail store sticker of $44.95 on it.

Thanks,
Kent
:D

 Back to the original intent of this thread. Thanks to you all, I've learned that my R33859 LB7 is probably a 1980 - 1982 issue. I just acquired one in exceptional condition (near Mint) whose serial is C38826 and now I'm wondering if anyone can shine any light on the likely year of manufacture of this knife.

Thanks,
Kent :)

I could provide the data you seek, but some guy named Hoss Kent keeps swooping down from the Ponderosa nabbing the examples! LOL!

Congrats on your purchases! RE the clampack. Worth more, to me, as is, unopened tarnish and all. Storing an LB-7 in it's leather sheath is asking for more tarnish. The leather is, I think, acid tanned.

Seriously, I am quite a few examples away from being able to give definate year dates on the LB-7s.

The clampack didn't appear until circa 1985. Does it say "I-Beam Patent Pending"?

There are still too many unanswered questions in the production records to give dates on the alpha-numeric serials. But I am working on it.

Michael :)

Thanks for your humorous reply. This is not the one from the clampack however. I am trying to buy as many quality Schrades as my limited means can afford - believe it or not, this one was only $29.95 SNIPED! God must love the people in the old "mother lode" area - lol
