LB8 help needed

Is that your final answer? ;)

L.O.L. Yes that is my final answer, but I HAVE been made a monkeys Uncle before though. I have a LB2-UH but I still need a LB4-UH, (I just lost out on one awhile back though, BY JUST A FEW DOLLARS!!!!). I never ever heard of a LB6-UH ever being offered by word of mouth, or even in any of my books.

As per my usual practice, names of living former employees have been redacted from the document.

Run Forest, RUN!
Michaels document says they were supposed to make a LB-6... Had the name all picked out and everything..
But did they ever produce one with a LB-6 stamp?
Hmmm...

Weeellll.... We do know that they produced the LB-7DP, albeit without a special tang stamp. Except for the use of the SCHRADE+/U.S.A. LTD. stamp. But it would certainly be a unique edition to a collection if one found an example, either a sample or production so stamped.

Roland,
I just logged on to this site and don't know when your queation was posted. There is no difference in the ROM LB-8 and the one made for Hoffritz other than the blade etching. The steel, the design, the frame and the handles are all the same. Prior to 2004 Imperial Schrade made a lot of knives for Hoffritz the LB-8 being one of them.

thanks Camper. what about the serial #s ? were the LB8s numbered separately from the LB7s, or in with the LB7 sequence ? roland

G'Day Roland, I have seen the question of LB7 and LB8 numbering raised a number of times and of course Michael has carried out considerable survey on LB 7.
My opinion is the LB8 was numbered separate to the LB7 series and support my thoughts as follows.
I have a Limited Edition 1980 Uncle Henry Set and the Staglon LB8 in that set is #20131 numbered in exactly the same bolster location as my LB7's.
Michaels research has already confirmed there were 17,693 LB7 produced in 1977,and Numbers 17694 to 334585 were produced in 1978 with some 785,250 LB7's produced by the time my LB8 #20131 was produced in 1980.
I have a 1978 North Carolina Set which comprises a Staglon LB8 and a Schrade 144.Both knives are serial numbered NC474 <NC standing for North Carolina?> Serial Number on LB8 in identical bolster position. What is interesting about this set is Schrade were obviously producing additional numbers of LB 8's which were not included in their traditional numbering system. The original 'bling' paperwork with the 1978 set has old style replacement certificate with LB8 clearly imprinted. There was some conjecture in previous posts about what Schrade called the Staglon LB7 style back in late 70's.
I trust all this info will further clarify or confuse! Hoo Roo.

Schrade always more questions than answers.

Larry, you have it right. My observations indicate seperate serial series for the LB-7 and the LB-8 in regular production. However LE knives such as the Dixie sets have each their own serial series independent of the regular production. I have noted seven sets in the Dixie Edition series total so far, positive dates from 1978 thru 1980. One of those eight sets may not have been an actual part of the series, but produced either early as a salesman's sample, or as an SFO for someone such as the hardware outfit in Memphis, Orgill Brothers . Even Schrade didn't know a few years ago how many set designs were produced.

G'Day Michael, Just when I think I've got it right... I see the 1978 North Carolina Dixie Staglon has a Schrade+ LB7 Tang stamp! The 1980 Special Uncle Henry has Schrade+ LB8 Tang stamp.
Were the late 70's Staglons produced from LB7 blade parts... similar to the end of Series LB8's produced with LB7 blades 20+ years later. They really were a lot of tricky dickies!....The 144 in the Dixie Set has Uncle Henry Signature Tang.........back to the drawing board! Hoo Roo

My South Carolina is an LB7. I believe I read in here that all of the Dixie Series were LB7's in the 1978 Christmas Sets, and they were the original "LB-8's" prior to actual production, which began a year or two later, when the LB-8 became an actual retail production knife.

I was saving this to make my first million dollars. But I can't bear not to share it. I've not added the latest info you fellows have posted here yet, but I will. As said, these are just rough notes and observations on developing research. Use at your own peril!:)

This set marked the introduction of both, the 144 and the LB7 w/ staglon handles, as well as Schrade's 75th year in business. The following year, the 144UH was added to the regular line of Uncle Henry knives, and in 1982, the LB8, which is the LB7 with Staglon handles, was added to the Uncle Henry line.

From what I can tell, the Dixie Collection was sold to three customers: Parker Frost, Orgill Brothers and Smokey Mountain Knife Works...
One Alabama edition seen had a ser no. “AL385”.LB7 Tang stamp
One South Carolina edition serial number “SC005”.LB7 Tang stamp
One Dixie "Steamboat" edition serial number “000”
One1978 North Carolina Dixie edition ser no. NC474 LB7 Tang stamp

One South Carolina NIB with 144UH & LB-8 replacement papers, plus a tan Schrade pamphlet, No paperwork regarding it being a Christmas Set (which was printed on the inside of the lid). LB-8 had LB-7 tang.

Any info on this LB7-UH w/staglon handles?

I have a LB7-UH w/the "Dixie Collection" in cursive on the blade and the tang is stamped w/ only this; Schrade+
USA LB7
The serial# is 255
It is a "Dixie Collection" not a "Dixie Edition"
Thanks
